Yomi is a character in Octopath Traveler II. She is a famed lutist who appears during Hikari and Agnea's Crossed Path episodes.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
When she first appears, Yomi wears a pink kimono and a straw hat. After Hikari pays her for a song, however, she promptly spends the funds on more expensive clothing, changing to a gray robe with golden trim and wearing a golden hairpiece.
Personality[]
Yomi is a famed lutist known as "Yomi of a Thousand Tones," and she takes pride in boasting about her reputation. She speaks in rather melodramatic terms and requires particular arrangements to satisfy her desires, insisting that her songs can only be performed under the most specific conditions. Later, she laments the pain of losing her sister and insists that attacking Hikari will soothe her grief, only making peace once he has soundly defeated her.
Story[]
Yomi and her twin sister Tsuki were born and raised in Ku together. As lowborn citizens, they often did not have much, but one day while exploring, they came across a worn-out lute, which sparked Yomi's interest. One night, they overheard an argument between their parents on which of the two twins was to be kept while the other moved. Tsuki attempted to comfort her sister and while Yomi fell asleep, she left her home so Yomi could stay.
As Yomi grew to adulthood, she practiced her craft in playing the lute and became quite adept at it over time, eventually calling herself Yomi of a Thousand Tones. At some point, she traveled around the world and upon returning to Ku, she reunited with her twin sister, who was a castle attendant, after many years apart. However, Yomi would suffer the loss of her sister at the hands of Clan Ku when Mugen staged a coup over the town and castle, setting the former on fire.
While traveling one day, Yomi ended up in Ryu, where she came across Hikari and Agnea, who were visiting as well. After asking them to pay for one of her songs, Hikari obliged at Agnea's urging, but she then told them to see her the next day.
The following day, she used the money to buy herself a new kimono, however, one of her lute strings frayed, delaying the performance further. After Agnea entreated a salesman for a horse's hair to repair the lute, Yomi told them that she would perform for them the following night.
Yomi then met the two on a nearby hill and proceeded to play for them "By the Light of the Heart," a song that Hikari recognized from Ku. After her performance, she left the area.
Yomi eventually made her way to the Tranquil Grotto, where she would once again meet with Hikari and Agnea while the two investigated the ruins at Benkei's request. After revealing her past and her connection with Tsuki, she then engaged Hikari in a one-on-one battle, blaming Clan Ku for her death. Despite her subsequent defeat at Hikari's hand, she was invited to perform at a festival in Ku to honor the departed, which, after making peace with Hikari, she agreed to do so, by playing "By the Light of the Heart" once again alongside Agnea's dancing.
