Story[]
18 years prior to the events of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, the Kingdom of Hornburg was invaded by southern tribes. In that point, he acquired a divine ring from a mysterious individual that allowed him to fulfill his wish for power.[1]A young Tytos was the one who lead the united army of Orsterra against the enemy and forced them to retreat, becoming known as a hero all across the continent. However, while Tytos wanted to invade the southern tribes in retaliation for their attack, the Order of the Sacred Flame denied his petition, as they didn't want to put the lives of the soldiers in danger. Instead, as a reward for his leadership, Tytos was put in charge of the town of Emberglow, where he would lead a special division of the army known as the Scarlet Wings, composed of ex-convicts.
Ten years later, Tytos met Velnorte, an apothecary who, while testing a medicine that was supposed to cure any ailment, accidentally killed a person and was put in jail. Seeing potential in that drug, Tytos released him and forced him to join the Scarlet Wings by threatening his blind girlfriend Rinyuu, all so he could finish the drug. Tytos would also start building a cathedral in Emberglow to assist with his plan to distribute the drug.
Eight years later, Velnorte had developed what Tytos called the Scarlet Elixir, which gave whoever took it a stronger body, but at the cost of turning them into a mindless savage. He tested that drug on a servant who had accidentally dropped his dinner on the floor. Velnorte was forced to end his life with the help of the Chosen One. This caused Velnorte to have a change of heart and, after discovering that Tytos planned to spread the drug from the cathedral and then take over the Church of Flamesgrace, decided to send the Chosen One to warn the Knights Ardante about it.
However, Tytos found out about this and sent Velnorte's research partner, Jurgen, with an army of drugged soldiers to kill the knights who were supposed to give the news to the church. Meanwhile, Tytos greeted the bishop Tarset, who came to inspect the cathedral's construction. Later, as punishment for Velnorte's betrayal, he had Jurgen and some soldiers execute Rinyuu discretely in the mountains. However, she managed to escape thanks to a blizzard and was reunited with Velnorte and the Chosen One while Jurgen chased her. The brawl between Velnorte and Jurgen would cause Rinyuu to fall from a cliff. Jurgen left her for dead. However, Tytos got enraged at him for not confirming her death and, as punishment, had Jurgen's mother killed in front of him. Shortly after that, Velnorte, overwhelmed by grief thinking Rinyuu was dead, went back to Tytos and agreed to finish the Scarlet Elixir.
All of Emberglow gathered in front of the cathedral on the day of its opening ceremony. Tytos greeted them from the top of the building with his platoon. He then began spreading the incomplete version of the drug while he and his men took what was supposed to be the complete one, planning to take control of the church with an army made of crazed townspeople. However, the complete version ended up being a fake, as part of Velnorte's suicidal plan to take revenge on Tytos. As a result, not only the townspeople, but also all of the Scarlet Wings began turning savage, forcing the hero to slaughter all of his men when they tried to attack him. After that, an exhausted Tytos was confronted by Velnorte, the Chosen One, Rinyuu, who had indeed survived her fall, and Dmitri, the man who had taken care of her after that. The Chosen One and their group then defeated Tytos, but the hero, in a last effort, managed to fatally injure Velnorte before collapsing.
Velnorte's confession was found later. Despite indicating Tytos in what would be known as the Scarlet Snow Incident, Tytos was remembered as a hero and Velnorte, the villain.

Trivia[]
- Boss designer UCMM comments on Tytos's main art, "I adore the gallantry of his figure surrounded by the throngs of people. I hope viewers sense a loyalty inspired by fear in the faces of the foreground soldiers. We drew Tytos with dark eyes at first, but anger took over his countenance as the days went on, until one day the dark eyes vanished completely." [2]
- Among developers, the winged cowl resembling the mark of the Scarlet Wings was a favorite. It got greenlit almost immediately.[3]
- As the Scarlet Wings moniker implies, Tytos's red wings allow him to take flight post-transformation. The Master of Power has a craven side to his character, so he flies out of reach of enemy attacks.[4]
- Shizuka Morimoto made Tytos's sprite with his self-assured nature in mind, but looking at his past often changes Morimoto's view of him.[5]
- Hirohito Suzuki about the three first champions' fallen forms: "The scenario was such that even if the three bosses who had been resurrected from the dead lost their rings, they could utilize the power of the Accursed Flame to manifest a portion of their respective forms when they transformed." [6]
