• Ophilia Chapter 4 Note: The cutscenes that trigger after "Unsettling Environs" ends and you walk into the next objective mark in Wispermill lock you into the party you currently have setup, and you cannot change it or fast-travel out of the area until after the cutscene "True Believers" ends.
• In-between the cutscenes "The Savior Revealed" and "For Her Father's Sake" is the only time either or both of the two party banters - "Chapter 4: Ophilia & Primrose" and "Chapter 4: Ophilia & H'aanit", can be triggered, and in-between "For Her Father's Sake" and "True Believers" - "Chapter 4: Ophilia & Tressa" and "Chapter 4: Ophilia & Alfyn" can be triggered. Unfortunately, because the above, you cannot see one of those 4 party banters on the same save file as the rest, unless you reload the save.
• Since you can change the party right after the cutscene "True Believers" ends, you can view both "Chapter 4: Ophilia & Olberic" and "Chapter 4: Ophilia & Cyrus" after you add them back into the party.

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Cyrus

Cyrus: ... Ophilia: What's the matter, Professor? You look agitated. Cyrus: I never thought the day would come when I'd witness the Kindling with my own eyes. Cyrus: I keep telling myself to not get overly excited—but frankly, I just can't help myself! Ophilia: So you've heard tell of the Kindling before? Cyrus: But of course! Cyrus: It is one of the central rites of the church, held every twenty years. Cyrus: The embers borne from Flamesgrace feed the sacred fires across the land. Cyrus: Many people know of the Kindling, but few have the opportunity to witness it first hand. Cyrus: It shall be the experience of a lifetime! Ophilia: Well, then. Now I have another reason to see this through to the end.

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Alfyn

Alfyn: You can find lots of rare plants and herbs in these lands. Alfyn: Especially lion's ear and sweet wormwood—a dash of each makes nearly every salve better. Alfyn: When I was studyin' to be an apothecary, I sometimes journeyed out here in search of ingredients. Ophilia: Is that so? Alfyn: Here, look at this one. White skullcap, they call it. Alfyn: The petals are good for fevers. I grind them with root starch and honey... Ophilia: Oh, it's wonderful! Alfyn: Ain't it? It was one of the first medicines I learned. Ophilia: I mean, I've never seen such a beautiful flower! Alfyn: I s'ppose it is pretty to look at. Here, you can have this one if you like. Ophilia: Why, Alfyn. You are too kind. Alfyn: Shucks. If you like flowers that much, I can pick plenty more for you. Ophilia: I'd like that. Alfyn: (Gosh, she's a cute little lady...)

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Primrose

Primrose: So, that brooch was an heirloom from the child's mother. Ophilia: That's right. Primrose: Let me help, Ophilia. Between the two of us, we're sure to find it. Ophilia: Thank you, Primrose! Primrose: I'll start looking over here. Ophilia: Erm, are you sure you want to rummage through the undergrowth in those clothes? Primrose: Why? Is something wrong with them? Ophilia: (What do I do? Her legs are quite exposed in those garments...) Ophilia: (But I don't know if I can say such a thing...) Primrose: You're as red as a beet, Ophilia. If nothing's wrong with my clothing, could we get back to the matter at hand? Primrose: The sooner we find the brooch, the sooner those children can be friends again. Ophilia: R-right!

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Tressa

Tressa: Hmmm... Ophilia: Is something the matter, Tressa? Tressa: I'm just thinking about Derryl. He seems so spoiled, even for a kid! Tressa: ...You know what? I think I'll go and give him a piece of my mind! Ophilia: No, Tressa! You can't do that! Ophilia: The poor child has been through so much. Lecturing him now will just make things worse. Tressa: I know what I'm doing, Ophilia. I'll even take some candy with me! Ophilia: Candy...? Ophilia: Oh! To cheer him up, you mean? Tressa: Cheer him up...? Why would I want to do that? I just thought I'd bribe him to be on his best behavior with it, if all else failed! Ophilia: ... Ophilia: ...You know, Tressa, perhaps it's best that I handle it.

Chapter 2: Ophilia and H'aanit

H'aanit: A dog with a brooch in its jaws? That could be it. H'aanit: When dogs catchen prey they aren too full to eat, they oft buryen it for safekeeping. H'aanit: They aren collectors, and hiden away sticks, toys, and old bones, too. Ophilia: So you think the dog may have buried Derryl's heirloom? H'aanit: The dog meant no malice. It actede solely upon instinct. H'aanit: The problem is the forest. It is home not just to animals, but dangerous monsters, too. H'aanit: As a hunter, I feare them more. Ophilia: As do I, to be honest. Ophilia: I pray that Derryl and Emil are unharmed... H'aanit: I shalt leave the praying to thee. But for now, leten us keepen moving. Ophilia: Definitely!

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Therion

Therion: ... Ophilia: You're very quiet, Therion. Therion: ... Ophilia: Are you thinking how heartwarming it is, to see quarreling friends make good again? Therion: ...Not exactly. They just reminded me of something. Ophilia: And what might that be? Therion: My childhood. It wasn't particularly a happy one, though, so you're probably better off not hearing the details. Ophilia: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry... Therion: No need to apologize. It was a long time ago. Therion: It's nothing but a memory now. And I know I'm not the only one around with such an uplifting past. Ophilia: I admire your attitude, Therion. It's very brave. Therion: ...Hardly. It's nothing to write home about.

Chapter 2: Ophilia and Olberic

Olberic: Children can take you by surprise. We oft forget what they are capable of. Ophilia: Hehe. It sounds like you are speaking from personal experience. Olberic: ...There's a young lad back in my village. I was teaching him the sword. Ophilia: Are you worried for him? Olberic: ...Nay. Olberic: T'would be a lie to say I do not think of him from time to time—but I do not worry. Olberic: I taught him what I could of the sword, and other things besides. Olberic: He took the lessons well. I have faith in the lad. Ophilia: ...I cannot tell you how happy that makes me. Olberic: How so? Ophilia: Well, it's a belief of mine... Ophilia: That every child should have a mentor, to take them in hand and show them what is right and wrong. Olberic: And I concur.

Chapter 3: Ophilia and Tressa

Tressa: This Kindling Ceremony sure seems like a big deal in the church. Tressa: Don’t you get nervous? Ophilia: Oh, very much so, believe me. Ophilia: I can’t help but imagine the worst, like forgetting the words to the prayer or tripping over my own feet... Tressa: I know exactly how you feel! Tressa: I get so anxious when I restock the shop, but no one buys anything. Tressa: But then again, it’s kind of thrilling, too. It’s what makes trading so exciting. Ophilia: Right. Challenges are what make everything worthwhile. Ophilia: So even if I’m nervous, I know that the Kindling is an important ceremony, and I have to do it right. Tressa: That’s the spirit! Tressa: So shake off that nervousness and let’s get going, Ophilia! Ophilia: Yes, let’s, Tressa.

Chapter 3: Ophilia and H'aanit

H’aanit: I wolde know more of this man, to whom thou spokest earlier. Ophilia: You mean Master Mattias? He is a merchant I met in Flamesgrace. Ophilia: He was of great help to me when I was preparing for my journey. H’aanit: So it was a fortunate happenstance to meeten him again here. Ophilia: It certainly was. I’m starting to think that Fortune is smiling favorably on this quest. Ophilia: I met you, after all. If that's not good fortune, I don’t know what is! H’aanit: ... Ophilia: Is something the matter? H’aanit: Nothing. ‘Tis nothing at all. Ophilia: Are you sure? Your face suddenly turned bright red.

Chapter 3: Ophilia and Cyrus

Ophilia: I wonder where that child could have gone… Cyrus: Something troubling you? Ophilia: Ah, Professor. Well, the truth is… Cyrus: ...I see. So there was a child spying on you earlier. Ophilia: Yes. But when I spotted him, he ran off to the gods only know where. Ophilia: He looked to be in trouble. I’m sure I could help, if only I could find him again. Cyrus: Truly, you are a kind soul. It would well behoove me to assist you in this charitable quest. Ophilia: Why, thank you. Cyrus: Whenever you strive to help others, people become inspired to help you. I am no exception. Cyrus: Now, about this runaway. I don’t imagine he could have gone far… Cyrus: So I think it best we thoroughly search the vicinity rather than rushing about and spreading ourselves too thin. Cyrus: Haste does make waste, after all. Ophilia: You always have the best advice, Professor.

Chapter 3: Ophilia and Therion

Therion: That priest is definitely hiding something. Ophilia: He certainly seemed...distracted, didn’t he? Therion: Well, there’s the understatement of the year. I don’t think he heard a word you said. He was clearly worried about something. Therion: He’s an open book. Ophilia: Well, he is not a man who’s accustomed to lying or prevaricating. Therion: That much is obvious. Ophilia: But I’m worried for him. What could be troubling him so? Therion: Maybe you’re being set up—and he’s in on the game. Ophilia: If that is true, then there must be something forcing his hand. Ophilia: If we can get to the bottom of what is worrying him, we might be able to help. Therion: ...You have a little too much faith in people. Ophilia: Do you think so? Ophilia: I can hardly imagine him wishing harm on anyone, least of all us. Ophilia: We should learn more before we start making assumptions. Therion: If you insist. I just hope your good intentions don’t go bad...

Alfyn: Hey, Ophilia. I owe you a thanks. Ophilia: You do? Alfyn: It was just like you said. Alfyn: It ain’t right for a father to turn his back on his child. Alfyn: And when I see someone usin' kids for their own end, it makes my blood boil. Ophilia: I feel the same, Alfyn. Ophilia: But the truth is...I’m a little afraid. Alfyn: Aw, shucks, Ophilia. We’re pals now. Alfyn: Me and my medicine are going to be right here at your side. Alfyn: So you’ve got nothin’ in the world to worry about, all right? Ophilia: Thank you, Alfyn. It gives me strength, knowing that you stand with me. Ophilia: (Strength...and peace of mind, too. I wonder if this is what it’s like to have an older brother.)

Primrose: ... Ophilia: Is something troubling you, Primrose? Primrose: I can’t wrap my head around it… Primrose: Having faith so strong that you’d give up your own life for it. Ophilia: ... Primrose: See, I prefer to put my faith in myself. Primrose: When I feel helpless, or find myself in trouble… Primrose: I continue to believe in myself, no matter the situation. Ophilia: Fine words. Believing in yourself is important and powerful… Ophilia: But you’ll still let me help you, won’t you? At least some of the time? Ophilia: Because come what may, I am your friend and ally. Primrose: Of course. And...thank you.

Ophilia: (Oh, Lianna, why?) Olberic: She must have had her reasons. Ophilia: Huh? Olberic: You are thinking about the young girl who stole the ember, are you not? Olberic: Do you truly think her capable of committing such an act on her own? Ophilia: No! ...No, I don’t. Ophilia: All she’s ever wanted was to make the archbishop—her father—proud of her. Olberic: Yet she stole the ember. Mayhap something drove her to it. Ophilia: Yes… Olberic: First, we should track her down and put the question to her. Olberic: Then perchance we will find out the why and wherefore. Olberic: What made Lianna do as she did? Was her hand forced? Olberic: Answer those questions, and you may be able to help her. Olberic: I will do whatever you need to assist you. Ophilia: Thank you, Sir Olberic. I may well call upon you.

Chapter 4: Ophilia and Therion

Therion: I’ve seen friendlier faces in prison. Therion: I’d bet half my ill-gotten fortune that “Savior” is here somewhere. Ophilia: I agree. They are far too wary of us for it to be anything else. Therion: Looks like he’s turned them all into true believers. Therion: No doubt by using some underhanded means. I wouldn’t put manipulation past him. Ophilia: Manipulation? Therion: Tough times will wear anyone down. Sometimes it leaves you weak, and vulnerable. Therion: Those people want to be saved. They’ll even start believing in miracles if it’ll make life easier for them. Therion: So if you want to be a “savior,” it’s just a matter of finding what those people need saving from, then telling them you can do it. Therion: Take it from me. Most people have more faith than they know what to do with. Ophilia: ... Ophilia: But don’t you think there are times when people truly need a savior? Ophilia: I believe it’s not wrong to reach out for salvation when a helping hand is offered. Therion: ... Therion: Then I suppose we’d best make sure it’s us who do the saving. Ophilia: Exactly!

Primrose: Now this isn't right. Shutting up pretty girls in a miserable place like this. Primrose: With a savior like this, who needs enemies? Ophilia: I’m so sorry, Primrose. It shouldn’t have come to this. If only I’d— Primrose: Now, now, Ophilia. No one’s saying this is your fault. Primrose: We should be blaming the ones who took advantage of your kindness. Ophilia: But… Primrose: But nothing. Now stop blaming yourself and help me find a way out of here. Ophilia: Y-yes, of course! Ophilia: (Primrose truly does have a generous heart…) Primrose: Hehe… Primrose: That charlatan will get his comeuppance, ten times over… Ophilia: ...

Ophilia: We have to hurry and help Lianna. H’aanit: Stayen now, child. We can doen but little for now. Ophilia: Yes, but— H’aanit: To panicken to is maken mistakes. Thou shalt only maken the situation worse. Ophilia: If you say so… H’aanit: First things first. Thou needest rest. Both for thy body and thy mind. H’aanit: ‘Tis the same as a hunt. The hunter must be tranquil and alert. H’aanit: Else the quarry will turn the tables, and the hunter becometh the hunted. Ophilia: We wouldn’t want that. H’aanit: So listenen. Thou must be patient. H’aanit: Our time shall come. And when it doth, we shalle striken together. Ophilia: ...I’m most grateful to have you on my side, H’aanit. H’aanit: Now I shalle heeden mine own counsel, and sleepe. Waken me if thou needest me. Ophilia: All right… Ophilia: Gracious. She fell right asleep, just like that.

Ophilia: ... Tressa: Ophilia… Tressa: Lianna doesn’t know what she’s doing. She’s been fooled by Mattias’s lies. Ophilia: Of course I want to believe in her. But… Tressa: When times get tough, it’s easier for people to lose sight of what’s important. Tressa: They don’t know what to do, they don’t know who to turn to… Tressa: But that’s what friends are for. Friends reach out a hand and pull them out of the chaos, and help them remember what really matters. Ophilia: ... Tressa: Lianna is your friend, isn’t she? Tressa: Then you have to be strong for her. Alfyn: It’s like you said, Ophilia. Alfyn: Dead is dead, and there’s no comin’ back from it. Ophilia: ... Alfyn: I’ve seen plenty of folk die in my time, and I was powerless to help ‘em. Alfyn: No matter how hard I tried to hold on to their lives, they slipped through my fingers like smoke. Alfyn: It always gets me thinkin’... Alfyn: Why is life so damned fragile? Ophilia: ... Alfyn: In the end, death comes for all of us. It’s the price we pay for livin’. Alfyn: Not a one of us can avoid it. Cyrus: So, it’s into the cave we go. I wonder what’s inside? Ophilia: Now’s not the time for archeology, Professor. Cyrus: Yes. Quite right. Our priority is to rescue Lianna. Cyrus: However, that cave may give us an answer to one of the questions that face us. Ophilia: What question is that? Cyrus: Why did Mattias chose this particular village? Ophilia: ...Could it be that the ceremony has to be held in that cave? Cyrus: Precisely what I was thinking. Cyrus: If that is the case, then the cave is extremely important to Mattias’s plan. Cyrus: But fear not. I shall do everything in my power to help rescue your friend. Ophilia: Then surely we can’t fail!

Ophilia: Well, intelligence such as yours can be very attractive… Cyrus: Please, my dear. Cyrus: A word such as “attractive” must be kept in reserve for those of great beauty—such as yourself. Ophilia: ... Ophilia: Erm… Cyrus: Hm? Ophilia: I think that maybe that’s the kind of thing the letter writer was talking about… Cyrus: You think so? But I was merely speaking my mind. Cyrus: Am I not allowed to tell a beautiful woman that she is just that? Ophilia: Well, sometimes you can...but maybe, in your case, you shouldn’t. Cyrus: Tsk. I am finding this most difficult to understand.

What tales these forsaken tomes would tell. Cyrus: Forsaken. That is exactly the word. Cyrus: To monopolize knowledge in this way is a desecration of scholarship itself. Olberic: Spoken like a man truly devoted to his trade. Olberic: It is only proper that an honorable scholar such as you cast his eyes over these pages once more. Cyrus: ...I intend to do just that.

But people eventually wearied of watching men die for sport... Cyrus: And the fights became more humane, less deadly. Cyrus: Forced duels between prisoners were banned. Only free men and volunteers could fight. Olberic: Now the arena is where men come to test their mettle and win glory for themselves. Cyrus: Tell me, Olberic. What do you think of this present-day arena? Olberic: It is honorable. Far better than forcing poor wretches to kill or be killed. Cyrus: It is still a blood sport. Olberic: ...But fought between free men who can choose not to, if that is their will.

Alfyn: You can’t hide it from me. Alfyn: If you don’t treat cuts they can get the rot, and then you’ll be in trouble. Alfyn: So stop pretending it’s nothin’ and let me fix it for you. Therion: An old friend, eh? Olberic: Erhardt? Aye, I called him friend, once upon a time. Olberic: But it ended the day he struck down our king. Therion: And you still want to see him again? Olberic: I would speak to him. Olberic: There is something I need to know. Therion: And you think meeting him will give you closure? What happens if you don’t like the answer you get? Therion: ...Are you sure you’re not doing this for your own self-satisfaction? Olberic: Perhaps you are right. Olberic: But I must see him, if I am to put the past behind me. Olberic: An oasis—the font of life in the arid waste of the desert. Cyrus: Just so. This one oasis provides water for all the towns hereabout. Olberic: Is that so? Cyrus: Yes. Some villages have small wells, but nothing to match the amount of water that flows forth here. Cyrus: Civilization has flourished in this place since ancient times. Cyrus: It really is something of a miracle, this oasis. A blessing from the gods. Olberic: Then I must do what I can to save this civilization. Olberic: Are you with me? Cyrus: Of course. You will have my utmost support. Cyrus: Why, with your brawn and my brains, I’m fain to say we shall be unstoppable! Olberic: ...I pray it be so.

H’aanit: Lizardmen. I like them not… Olberic: You know these creatures? H’aanit: Aye. At least their water-dwelling cousins. H’aanit: These aren adapted for the sands, but they still needen water to liven. Olberic: Then this oasis is as essential to their survival as it is to the people here. H’aanit: Indeed. H’aanit: They aren wary, mistrustful creatures, and attacketh all whom wanderen into their domain. H’aanit: As long as they claimen dominion over this oasis, conflict is inevitable. Olberic: I see. Olberic: The sword I bear makes me duty bound to protect the people of this town. H’aanit: ‘Tis a just cause. I, too, shall standen by thy side.

Primrose: That gentleman in charge of the town’s guard is quite something. Olberic: How so? Primrose: I mean he’s a good man, gallant and brave. Olberic: I did not think him your type. Primrose: Most women appreciate a man of courage. Someone you can trust in a crisis. Olberic: If he is what you say he is, he shall be a good ally. Primrose: I do say. After all, I’ve already figured out that you’re good and gallant, too. Olberic: ... Primrose: See? I’m good at reading men. Cyrus: The town is in turmoil, which is exactly what I’d expect after seeing the behavior of those charged with policing it. Cyrus: Still, it will be no small task getting at Werner. Olberic: A difficult foe, to be sure. Olberic: If there was ever a time when I was in need of a scholar’s wisdom, it is now. Cyrus: Then it's most fortunate I am here now. Cyrus: I do have some thoughts, as it happens… Cyrus: An oppressive regime such as this is bound to foster discontent and dissatisfaction. Cyrus: I suggest seeking out the victims. Find those who are most downtrodden, who are suffering the greatest. They will tell you what you need to know. Olberic: I see. I shall do as you counsel. Cyrus: You will? Alfyn: It’s an evil thing, burnin’ folk at the stake. Alfyn: This damned Werner thnks of people’s lives as nothin' more than firewood! Olberic: ...Tell me this, Alfyn. Olberic: Do you value human life over firewood? Alfyn: Huh? What kinda crazy question is that? Olberic: I have taken the lives of more men than I care to remember. Olberic: Each time, I told myself that it mattered not. That it was insignificant. Alfyn: ... Alfyn: The stuff we’re made of, our flesh and blood, is fragile stuff. It turns to dust soon enough. Alfyn: Not to get too poetical, but I’ve always thought that the fire—the life—in our bodies goes cold too soon. Alfyn: So when I give folk medicine, I try my darndest to keep that fire alive. Tavern

Tavern Banter are a form of travel banter that can be played upon entering a Tavern only if the following conditions are met:

• Any traveler's Chapter 4 Tale is completed; for maximum party management efficiency, it is recommended to complete the first chosen traveler's Chapter 4 Tale before any other.
• The requisite party members are in the active party when the party enters the tavern, in the order they are shown in the table below.
• Party visits a Tavern only after visiting/loading into a minimum of 11 different cities/areas in-between different banters, over the course of their journey.
• When a banter is activated, an invisible "visited tavern" counter resets, and starts back up again after loading into a different area.
• Moving between two areas repeatedly that were already visited once after the counter starts up again does not count.
• The banter can also be triggered after loading into different areas first with any party setup, and then changing the party to the required setup for that specific banter.
• One might save before activating a banter to see them all, by just reloading the save and changing the party, not requiring to move between areas to trigger them.

Ophilia: He seemed awfully cold, with that cloak wrapped so tightly around him. Tressa: Exactly! He was clinging onto that cloak for dear life. Tressa: So I was just thinking… Tressa: If you needed to get him to take off the cloak, how would you do it? Alfyn: Hoho. A riddle, is it? Olberic: Hmm… I would challenge him to a duel. Olberic: Should he accept, he would naturally remove the cloak of his own choosing. Ophilia: I suppose that’s fine if you’ve got a big sword and don’t mind getting into a fight… Alfyn: Haha! She’s right there! Alfyn: You can’t go pushing you weight around and bullyin’ people to fight you all the time. Olberic: Then what would you do? Alfyn: Simple. I’d make friends with the fellah. Alfyn: Share a mug of mead, tell a few jokes, then ask him to take off the cloak. Ophilia: How very like you, Alfyn! Alfyn: It’s easy to get people to trust you when it’s your job to cure them. Tressa: And you, Ophilia? How would you do it? Ophilia: Me? Oh, well. Erm, I don’t know… Ophilia: Perhaps I’d take him somewhere nice and warm. I mighte loosen an arrow into your side. Primrose: Can we help you with something, Professor? Cyrus: I find myself most fascinated by your ability to control beasts, H’aanit. Cyrus: If it were no trouble, I would like to ask you some questions, at some opportune time. H’aanit: Of course. H’aanit: Truth be told, I am curious about all of thee, too. H’aanit: Primrose and her dancing, Cyrus and his studies… H’aanit: Therion’s thievery… Therion: That so? H’aanit: Especially thee. I wondere how thy fingers became so dexterous.
