"Forget your silly dreams, Floyd. They're not needed here." —Thurston

Thurston is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He works as a secretary for the Roque Company and first appears in Partitio's Chapter 2, later serving as the boss of Partitio's Chapter 3.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Thurston wears a white suit and a pair of glasses.

Personality[]

Greedy by nature and tenacious in his business methods, Thurston has no qualms with doing whatever it takes to get what he wants. He will even stoop low enough to extort taxes from children, threatening to break their knees if they refuse. He is also incredibly petty, as when he was fired from the Roque Company for his dirty deeds, rather than reflect on them, his first instinct was to track down and attempt to kill Partitio for ousting him.

Because he is deeply devoted to his work, Thurston's dedication can cause him to spiral out of control. Nevertheless, he is highly capable and can perform the work of ten men. After Partitio forgives and hires him, Thurston adopts Partitio's ideals in an effort to improve his employees' working conditions. Since Thurston's methods revolve primarily around data collection to understand every aspect of each employee's life, he appears incapable of viewing the world beyond his analytical mindset.

Story[]

Wooden Signboard
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...)
The following section contains potential story spoilers!

Thurston first appears in Partitio's chapter 2, where is he first seen extorting a young boy for taxes. Partitio intervenes, causing him to retreat. Later on, he attempts to wrest control of Floyd's upgraded steam engine for the Roque Company. After Partitio intervenes once more, Thurston sets the company hound Garnet upon him, though it fails to drive him off. Alongside Floyd and Ori, Thurston serves as a witness to Partitio and Roque's business deal to sell the rights to the steam engine for eighty billion leaves.

Thurston reappears in Chapter 3, where he tracks down and attacks Alrond at his manor in Wellgrove. Although initially hidden in the steam from his engine, its destruction eventually reveals him, and he then reveals that he was fired from the Roque Company shortly after his actions at Clockbank. Furious at Partitio for costing him his job, Thurston tracked him down and attempted to kill him to stop his deal with Alrond and get back in Roque's good graces. Again, he fails.

Defeated once more, Partitio reprimands Thurston for his actions, but offers to give him a chance to redeem himself by offering him a job once he gets the rights to the steam engine from Roque, citing his tenacity as a beneficial trait for any company. Thurston finally sees that he has been utterly bested and admits defeat, accepting Partitio's offer. After Partitio gets the rights to the engine, Thurston is seen alongside Papp, Roque and Giff at Oresrush, laying out plans for the steam train.

After Partitio's story is completed, Thurston has a sidequest involving him and Floyd. He is worried that Floyd is not getting adequate rest due to his newfound interest in work. After the traveler uses a path action to force Floyd to sleep, Floyd reawakens shortly afterward. Thurston reveals that his concern for Floyd's well-being to him, which surprises Floyd, as he has drastically changed from when he last met him. Thurston thanks the traveler for his help and goes about his business.

Battle[]
