- "Even the most disciplined are exposed by their own scent. Humans are overcome with fear before their demise, and their sweat reeks something awful." —The Slaver
The Slaver (real name unknown) is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He is a member of the Blacksnakes and one of the antagonists Throné faces during her pursuit of Mother.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
The Slaver has short black hair and wears a white shirt over black pants.
Personality[]
The Slaver is known to be a cruel, ruthless man who took sadistic pleasure in the sport of life and death between others, as shown when he executed an unwilling participant for his refusal to participate in the drinking game. However, he is not without honor, as he revealed to Throné about his ability to detect even the faintest hint of poison and even told her where to find Mother before acknowledging his loss.
The Slaver also has an acute sense of smell, allowing him to detect the fear of others and to locate the poison in his cups.
Story[]
The Slaver's early life as well as his real name is unknown, though at some point he was inducted into the Blacksnakes and was given the responsibility of trafficking people to buy or sell to other organizations. One of the pastimes he performs for entertainment is a drinking game called "Death's Table", where at least one random cup is spiked with poison, and customers gamble to determine who survives as they take turns drinking each cup.
One day, The Slaver is visited by Throné, who was looking for Mother. After analyzing her and determining her lack of fear, he challenged her to a drinking game at Death's Table, where he attempted to use scare tactics on her regarding the poison. Eventually, two cups remained, and Throné ended up choosing the safe one, leaving The Slaver with the poison. Acknowledging his loss, he drank the final cup, and as he began to feel the poison's effects, he told Throné where to find Mother, as well as lament the ongoing war with the Blacksnakes and that he could not be free either due to the former head. He then wished Throné well before succumbing to the poison.

Trivia[]
- It is possible to die against The Slaver by choosing the wrong cup when prompted. A hint to find the right cup is that the poisoned one's choice will be highlighted in a blood red tinge. This is the only known instance in the series in which one can get an automatic Game Over without dying in battle.
