- "Behold the pinnacle of the Roque Company's technological wizardry... Steam Tank Obsidian...!" —Roque Brilliante
Steam Tank Obsidian is a boss in Octopath Traveler II. Created as the secret weapon of the Roque Company, this powerful train serves as the final boss of Partitio's story.
Story[]
Steam Tank Obsidian is large steam-powered train outfitted with heavy armor and weapons, and the personal project of Roque Brilliante regarding the steam engine. After being confronted by Partitio with 80 billion leaves to buy the rights to the engine, Roque refuses to let the engine go, and sets the contraption upon Partitio.
Battle[]
Steam Tank Obsidian is comprised of 3 components:
Abilities[]
- The steam tank is shielded by its armor!: Used as the first action in the battle. Locks all of its weaknesses and increases its shields to 40. As each component is destroyed, its shields drop by 10 for each one. When all three are down, all weaknesses will be unlocked.
- Attack: Physical attack, single target.
- Repairs: Revive and fully restore all extremities. Used at roughly 50% health.
- Add Fuel:
- Enhance Armor: Increases Physical Defense, Elemental Defense of self and all extremities for 2 turns.
- Roll Out: Physical attack, single target.
- Steam Whistle: Physical attack, hits entire party.
- Runaway Tank: Used immediately once all extremities have been destroyed for the second time, and when recovering from a break once all extremities have been destroyed for the second time. Steam Tank Obsidian enters boost mode for 1 turn and increases actions per turn to two. Will continously use Full Steam Ahead until broken.
- A shrill whistle pierces the air!:
- Full Steam Ahead: Physical attack, targets entire party.
- Emergency Maintenance // The glacis plate is no longer broken!: Glacis Plate instantly recovers from break with full shields, acts at the end of this turn (this action is not foreshadowed on the action list). If the Glacis Plate would have recovered from break next turn, then its action that turn will still keep its special recovery-from-break priority. Glacis Plate does not need to wait to attack if previously on cooldown.
- Emergency Maintenance // The smokestack is no longer broken!: Smokestack instantly recovers from break with full shields, acts at the end of this turn (this action is not foreshadowed on the action list). If the Smokestack would have recovered from break next turn, then its action that turn will still keep its special recovery-from-break priority.
- Emergency Maintenance // The cannon is no longer broken!: Cannon instantly recovers from break with full shields, acts at the end of this turn (this action is not foreshadowed on the action list). If the Cannon would have recovered from break next turn, then its action that turn will still keep its special recovery-from-break priority. Cannon does not need to wait to attack if previously on cooldown.

Trivia[]
- Steam Tank Obsidian's name may be a tribute to the Obsidians from the original Octopath Traveler. Additionally, its Glacis Plate is evidently named after the Creature of Legend Glacis.
- Alongside the miniboss Neo Steam Engine, Steam Tank Obsidian is the first and only machine boss currently in the series.
- Despite being a machine, the Steam Tank Obsidian can be blinded and poisoned. This is likely because Roque, its driver, is susceptible to these status ailments.
