- This page is about the Path Action, Steal. For the skill of the same name, see Steal (Skill).
Steal is a recurring path action.
Steal is Therion's Path Action in Octopath Traveler. This ability allows Therion to steal items from townsfolk, including some items that are not sold in stores or are otherwise exclusive to chests.
This Path Action is the rogue counterpart to Tressa's Path Action, Purchase. While the pool of items obtainable from both Purchase and Steal are the same, some items will have 0% success rate and cannot be stolen, and certain items (marked as "Not for Sale") can only be stolen.
Gameplay[]
Items that can be obtained with Steal include rare items or powerful weapons.
Each item in an NPC's possession has a Success Rate. The success rate is based on three factors:
- Therion's level
- Item's Steal Level
- "Thieving Tips & Tricks"
If Therion's level is equal to or greater than that of the Steal Level of the item he wishes to Steal, he will have a 100% success rate. If the item has a higher Steal Level than Therion's Level, his success rate will be determined by the following table:
Success Rate | Level Difference |
---|---|
3% | +21 |
8% | 20 - 16 |
15% | 15 - 12 |
55% | 11 - 10 |
65% | 9 - 8 |
80% | 7 - 1 |
100% | ≤ 0 |
By using the Scrutinize or Inquire Path actions on certain NPCs in towns, Therion can improve his Success Rate for the associated NPC's town only. This adds 10 to Therion's level when calculating chance of success for the current town.
For instance, if Therion is level 10 and is trying to steal an item with a Steal Level of 20, he will have a 55% Success Rate. With Thieving Tips & Tricks, Therion's effective level will be 20, and he will have a 100% success rate.
If Therion fails his attempt to steal an item, the travelers' reputation in the current town will drop by one.
