Scholar is a recurring job.
Scholar (学者, Gakusha) is a job in Octopath Traveler II. It is Osvald V. Vanstein's primary job.
Guild Location[]
The Scholars Guild is located in Western Winterbloom Snows in the Winterlands.
Travel to Winterbloom and take the west exit to Western Winterbloom Snows. Head all the way west and climb the steps leading north. Enter the brick building to find the Scholars Guild Master by the fireplace inside. Speak to the Scholars Guild Master to receive a Scholars License.
Additional Licenses[]
To obtain additional Scholar Licenses, the following tasks must be completed:
Task Name | Description | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Research Materials, Part I | Ancient sentinel cores are an excellent source of magical power, but research has shown that they can only be obtained from specimens untainted by the elements. Once you have collected the required number, you shall receive proof of your scholarship. | Ancient Sentinel Core x 5 |
Research Materials, Part II | Almighty soulstones, those that contain energy from all the elements, are exceedingly rare and can only be obtained from elementals. Collect the required number and you shall receive further proof of your scholarship. | Almighty Soulstone x 5 |
Skills[]
Note: spell Intensity boosts only affect (and are used up by) certain spells, all of which either affect all enemies or all allies. Besides the 3 elemental spells of the scholar, other applicable spells are: Luminescence, Heal Wounds and Revive (Cleric), Malice, Blessing and Hex (Arcanist). Osvalds One True Magic EX skill and Temenos' Heavenly Shine EX skills are also affected (Prayer for Plenty appears to have boosted versions in the game code but only affects a single target). The name of the spells also changes to reflect the available boost.
For all damage spells, the intensity boost increases the number of hits by 1 and 2 respectively, while the rest are powered up in similar ways as they would be if boosted (for example, a spell-intensity boosted Revive will always heal revived party members).
Support Skills[]
Support Skill Name | No. of Skills Unlocked | Total JP | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Evasive Maneuvers | 4 | 130 | Reduces the rate of random encounters. (Equipping multiple characters with this skill will have no added effect.) |
Elemental Augmentation | 5 | 630 | Raises the equipping character's elemental attack by 50. |
Extra Experience | 6 | 1630 | Receive additional EXP after battles. (Equipping multiple characters with this skill will have no added effect.) |
Advanced Magic Master | 7 | 4630 | Raises the number of times the equipping character can use more intense spells by 1. |
Strategies[]
- Ironically Osvald himself is one of top beneficiaries of having another scholar in his party. Analyze and Advanced Magic/Alephan's Wisdom are all crucial support spells, but they massively delay his own damage output. Relegating these casts to another lets him quickly focus on what matters most - pelting enemies with high damage spells.
- Temenos can gain a lot of benefit from the Scholar secondary job. As mentioned previously, his spells benefit from Advanced Magic/Alephan's Wisdom, and with his Latent Power the intensified spells will take 2 or 3 shields from all enemies at once. His high base SP, Inner Strength/Elemental Augmentation Support Skills, Scholar stat bonuses, and boosted spell intensity all come together to make Heavenly Shine deal an insane amount of damage. Combining Judgement with his night Path Action, Coerce, is particularly effective with Elemental Barrage, as Temenos can often break a single opponent with just one use.
- Partitio is a very potent scholar from support perspective. With his high BP generation overall he can quickly cast Alephan's Wisdom on your primary mage while still having enough horsepower to feed them BP in subsequent rounds ensuring maximum spell power with minimum wait. On top of that once he gets his second EX skill, he can heal and overheal everyone's SP pools (except his own) making him a literal battery for your team's BP and SP needs. Stacking max SP increasing items on him rather than your mage is a great idea, as it'll be shared to all, giving your entire party massive SP pools, rather than being advantageous to just one person.

- Each scholar in Solistia traditionally owns a silver quill, which he or she passes on to a junior scholar when retiring.
