- "Take that, ya lousy vermin!" —After defeating enemy thugs
Scaracci is a character in Octopath Traveler II.
A member of the Blacksnakes, Scaracci puts on a bold front, but secretly fears being punished by the guild.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Scaracci has brown hair and wears a black vest over brown pants. Black bracelets decorate his wrists.
Personality[]
Scaracci is a selfish pessimist with a penchant for spitting on the ground. His patterns of speech fail to endear him to his companions, as he either tends to make dumb jokes (as when he compares enemies to rats and proposes to distract them with cheese) or dirty innuendo that nobody requested.
Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Scaracci was born as one of many of Claude's children before being taken and raised as one of the Blacksnakes. During his time, he would work with and befriend fellow Blacksnake members Pirro, Throné Anguis, and Donnie. During a gathering, they talked about a treasure rumor called "Alpates" in which they all placed bets for, with Scaracci betting against the treasure's existence.
One night, Scaracci is sent with Pirro, Throné, and Donnie to venture into New Delsta's sewers on an assignment to steal "the mark" from the Diamante estate. But the plan falls apart when the group are ambushed by guards with Donnie dying from his wounds before he could pick the lock on the door to the exit, forcing the trio to fall back and fight off their pursers. After defeating the guards, they speculate that someone in the Blacksnakes must have sold them out and sabotaged the job. They eventually escaped through an alternate exit after defeating the leader of the guards. As they did, Scaracci made a dirty comment about Throné "giving him a hand" before being coldly dismissed by her and Pirro.
When the group went their separate ways, Scaracci told Mother that it was Throné's fault regarding the botched mission, and was not present at the Blacksnakes group meeting.
The next day, Scaracci was sent by Father to the Diamante estate to kill Diamante and Pirro, who was the suspected traitor of the Blacksnakes. In reality, it was a ruse by Father to pit the three against each other to determine the strongest. However, while there, he was killed alongside Diamante by Pirro.
Etymology[]
Scaracci's name may be inspired from the Italian word "scaramuccia," which means "little skirmisher." One variant on this theme is the stock character "Scaramouche," who appears in commedia dell'arte and farce as a cowardly braggart, easily beaten and frightened. Scaracci's name therefore reflects his belligerent but craven nature.
Trivia[]
- During his brief time as a playable character, Scaracci's battle skills highlight his selfishness, as he can force his allies to take damage for him and debuff all targets, including his teammates, apart from himself.
