- "Welcome to our boring backwater. You're one odd duck to want to come here." —Townsperson at the city entrance
Sai is a town in Octopath Traveler II. It serves as the setting of Castti's Chapter 2: Sai Route and Agnea's Chapter 4, as well as one of Partitio's Scent of Commerce quests.
According to the Mercantile Manuscript, Sai sits in the eye of the desert. Once a fortress city once known as the Orochi Bastion and held by the forces of U, it was taken by Ku two decades ago.
Originally the hometown of Dolcinaea, this small desert town and its immigrants entered a war with Timberain four years ago.
The Warriors' Guild can be found in the northern part of Sai.
Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Scent of Commerce[]
Shortly after arriving in Sai, Partitio recognizes the emblem of the famed merchant Masoud, known for his legendary Mercantile Manuscript. Eager to meet his idol, Partitio rushes to introduce himself to Masoud and request a glimpse of the manuscript, but Masoud turns him away, requiring that he first passes a test: to bring Masoud a merchant's true treasure. Undaunted by this challenge, Partitio searches the town for Masoud's daughter and brings her to him. Much to Partitio's surprise, Masoud deems this answer incorrect and sends him away empty-handed.
When Partitio returns to the town in defeat, Masoud's daughter offers him a hint: Masoud isn't searching for his personal treasure, but rather the treasure of a merchant in general. After a moment's thought, Partitio uncovers the answer, which he presents to Masoud: a merchant's greatest treasure is himself, his years of experience, and the connections he's made. Masoud begrudgingly grants Partitio his approval and offers the young merchant the key to his archives.
Castti's Chapter 2: Sai Route[]
During her Chapter 2, Castti comes to Sai in search of her lost memories. At the town's hospital, she meets a fellow apothecary named Mao and a gruff commander named Edmund, who introduce her to the conflict that has been raging between Sai's western immigrants and the king of Timberain. Despite Edmund's admonitions, Castti charges into the war zone in order to heal injured enemy soldiers, who have been caught in quicksand created by an angered Sand Lion. Castti convinces Edmund to help her treat the soldiers, including their commander Griff, and follows Edmund into the Sand Lion's Den to defeat the beast.
After she successfully calms the Sand Lion, Castti returns with Edmund and Griff to Sai's hospital. There, the two enemy commanders make peace, and Castti recovers a few lost memories of her leadership role in Eir's Apothecaries.

Trivia[]
- The remains of Fort Orochi serve as housing for the poor in Sai's eastern district.
- The price to restore reputation in Sai is 7,500 leaves.
- Along with "A Verdant Winds Blows," the theme "Beyond the Sands" is one of Yasunori Nishiki's favorite town themes in Octopath Traveler II. "Beyond the Sands" is a low-tempo, mellow track with a melody of which he is particularly fond. The Asian-style sound contains hints of both Japanese and Chineseness, with distinctive instrumentation: the day version features a yangqin, and the night version an ondes Martenot. Both instruments appear nowhere else on the soundtrack, so Nishiki had to call in and record performers for this piece alone, ensuring that he got the sound right.[1]
