- "Such a vast repository of knowledge must have been accumulated over decades...even centuries! ... From this trove, to those odd wall paintings... This place is one enigma after the next. One thing is clear: if there is a mastermind behind all this, I can expect to find him here." —Cyrus
Ruins of Eld is a dungeon location in Octopath Traveler where the climax of Cyrus's story takes place.
In these ancient ruins, Cyrus discovers that the lost tome From the Far Reaches of Hell is currently in the possession of Headmaster Yvon's assistant, Lucia. Within the ruins lies a foreboding mural adorned with runes in High Hornburgian, depicted as if flowing forth from a gate.
Description[]
Ruins of Eld is a ruins engulfed in the forests around Duskbarrow, containing an ancient library that slumbers beneath the trees. Vegetation flourishes throughout the ruins, from grass to bushes to full-grown trees. Sunlight streams in from the heavens, illuminating butterflies that hover in elegant flocks. In addition to bookshelves stacked full with legendary works about necromancy and the gods, the ruins contains a vast mural spread across one wall, depicting the mythical Gate of Finis. At the end of the ruins, a grand staircase sweeps up to a cliff surrounded by towering bookshelves, shadowed by whispering trees and the open sky.

Trivia[]
- The Ruins of Eld is the only dungeon in the game that requires the player to double back after the boss fight, completing additional story objectives.
- The chest containing a Refreshing Jam at the outer section of the ruins can be opened through the wall.
- If the tome From the Far Reaches of Hell is examined before Forbidden Gold and Trial of the Twelve, Volume VII, the valuable Original Tome will not be acquired.
- Players can walk and stand on the copy of From the Far Reaches of Hell in the boss room.
- In the data section of the Octopath Traveler: Complete Guide, Forbidden Gold is referred to as "Vision of Abyssea," suggesting that this may have been Forbidden Gold's name earlier in development.[1]
- The Trial of the Twelve is described as "An ancient tome detailing how the twelve gods sealed away an unholy power beyond the edge of the world." According to Cyrus, only the first five volumes of The Trial of the Twelve are extant.
- Forbidden Gold's description is, "In the pages of this tome, the secrets buried by the gods are likened to a golden fruit, and an ominously worded warning is issued to any who would covet this forbidden power."
- From the Far Reaches of Hell is described as "A tome wherein is writ, in horrifying detail, a forbidden rite to bring back the unholy power sealed away beyond the edge of the world." The tome is also noted to contain "the secrets of life and death," including instructions on creating demonic blood crystals (as revealed during Cyrus's story) and gaining immortality (implied in Mattias's diary).
- Among the long-lost books Cyrus mentions is Covenant of the Sage, which is not obtainable or scrutinizable. Given its name, this tome may refer to a covenant of Sage Salomon, who also wrote From the Far Reaches of Hell.
- At the mural within the ruins, Primrose confesses, "Those paintings scare me. I don't think I've seen anything quite so... spooky."
- According to Cyrus's Chapter 4 travel banter with Ophilia, the Ruins of Eld date back to "the age of legends" when gods and mortals walked together on the earth, before the Order of the Sacred Flame was established and a religious schism occurred. In banter with H'aanit, Cyrus mentions that the age of legends occurred a thousand years ago.
- The Ruins of Eld contain books otherwise lost to the ages—a rare collection curated by Lucia with the aid of Lyblac herself. As Cyrus declares, "such a vast repository of knowledge must have been accumulated over decades... even centuries!"
- In his travel banter, Cyrus tells Tressa that the ruins' library records the history of all that has happened: "Every event, from beginning to end."
- The Sage Salomon used to study the ruins, lending him insight into the Gate of Finis and enabling to write From the Far Reaches of Hell.
