- "Oh, Osvald... How I long to be with you. To ease your pain. To get you looking presentable again. To make you some goulash, with Elena. Alas, my dear, I cannot. You have unfinished business. So you cannot stay here. For it is not yet time. I love you, my dear." —To Osvald, after her death
Rita Lumina was the wife of Osvald V. Vanstein, mother of Elena Vanstein, and a descendant of the Lumina Clan.

History[]
Not much is known about Rita's early life, though at some point she met Osvald before settling down with him and together having a daughter, Elena.
One day, Osvald's colleague, Harvey, discovered her connection to the Lumina bloodline and had her and Elena kidnapped whilst staging it as a death by immolation by setting the Vanstein home on fire and placing two bodies similar to them to make it look convincing.
While Harvey's prisoner, she was subjected to his experiments before he killed her in an attempt to complete the Book of Demons. Although it failed, he used her blood and essence to create the Grieving Golem, which was eventually destroyed by Osvald, allowing her to finally move on in peace.

Etymology[]
"Rita" is a shortened version of the Spanish and Italian name "Margarita," which is derived from the Greek word "margarites" (meaning "pearl"). Alternatively, in Vedic tradition, "rita" refers to the cosmic-moral principle of order that establishes regularity and righteousness in the world. As such, Rita's name reflects the inner light of her heritage.
Rita's surname, "Lumina," establishes her relationship to the Lumina Clan and is derived from the Latin word "lumen," meaning "light."
