"Sheesh... I'm starving." —In Crackridge

Pom is a character in Octopath Traveler II who makes a minor appearance during Ochette's Chapter 2: Tera's Route.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Pom is brown-haired, portly, and wears a white shirt and blue pants with suspenders.

Personality[]

Pom's chief characteristics are his hunger and his laziness, which prompt him to sit on the ground complaining of starvation until Ochette offers him jerky. Despite his cowardly tendencies, he keeps his word to Ochette and leads her to Tera's den, though he flees when the two enter battle.

Story[]

Born a resident of Crackridge, Pom almost followed his nose off a cliff when he was a baby. Tera saved his life, but Pom has no recollection of the incident.

Many years later, Pom was known around Crackridge to be a gourmand of many types of food. One day, Ochette encountered him as he lay on the ground from hunger, asking him about the whereabouts of Tera, one of the Creatures of Legend. Pom agreed to guide her in exchange for some aromatic jerky made from buttermeep, which roamed outside of town. After eating his fill, he expressed his intentions to become a hunter and fulfilled his end of the bargain, bringing Ochette to the Bed of the Titan, where Tera slept.

After Ochette subdued and captured Tera, Pom decided that he no longer wanted to become a hunter. Instead, he revealed his new intent to raise cattle for food. He then saw Ochette off as she left Crackridge.

Quotes[]

"Dinnertime already, Ochette?" —When Summoned
"That takes care of lunch... Now, what to do about afternoon tea?" —In Conning Creek (day)
"That takes care of dinner... Now, what to do about supper?" —In Conning Creek (night)

Etymology[]

"Pom" is derived from the French word "pomme," meaning "apple." Alternatively, the name doubles as a shortened version of "pomegranate," another type of fruit. Both meanings speak to Pom's voracity.

Trivia[]

  • After completing Ochette's Chapter 2: Tera's Route, Pom can be found in Conning Creek.
  • When Ochette Befriends him during her story, Pom has a strength of 4 and possesses the skill "Steel Defenses."
  • During the Epilogue, Pom can be seen eating jerky next to Shirlutto.
  • Pom cannot be recruited or battled in Conning Creek. He does, however, carry Quality Jerky, Superior Jerky, and Perfect Jerky, which can be obtained through Steal, Mug, Purchase, or Entreat.
