- "We do what we can to survive in this dump. Living with a collar around our necks from our "parents". I want to rise in the ranks and get my hands on some real money… Buy good liquor, good smokes, fall asleep in a big bed. I want to enjoy my life before I bite the dust." —Pirro
Pirro is a character in Octopath Traveler II.
He is a member of the Blacksnakes. Though somewhat resigned to his life in the guild, he also dreams of rising through the ranks and earning his freedom. He is the boss of Throné's Chapter 1.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Pirro has shoulder-length blond hair, wears a leather headband, and possesses piercing green eyes.
Personality[]
Pirro is a collected and competent thief, willing to pilfer and kill to claim what he must. Despite his thieving abilities, he is dissatisfied with his life as a Blacksnake, disillusioned by the cheap cost of life. He dreams of rising in the ranks so that he can enjoy himself before he dies, making the most of his limited years. Up until the end, Pirro demonstrates a close bond with Throné, as he shares his hopes with her and offers to be whipped in her place. Even when he believes that he must kill her in order to secure a position as the Blacksnakes' successor, Pirro hesitates to strike the first blow. He retains his respect for her even as he lies dying, acknowledging that she truly is the best in the nest.
Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
One night, while running from a group of vagabonds in the waterway after a failed heist, Pirro, Throné, Scaracci, and Donnie (with the latter being injured and helped by Throné) made their way to the main exit, only to find it locked. They were then engaged by some of the pursuers, which they defeated quickly. However, Donnie succumbed to his wounds before they could get his assistance with the door, which forced the three to find another way out. After knocking out a nearby vagabond, they made their way to the alternate exit, only to find it blocked by another group of vagabonds, which were dispatched easily. Outside, the three go their separate ways in an attempt to lose their pursuers.
Later, due to the botched heist which cost them their client, both Throné and Pirro were punished by Mother (with Scaracci ratting out the former and the latter stepping up to take responsibility).
The next day, Father gave Pirro a mission: to eliminate Throné and Diamante as part of a ruse to eliminate all of them in one fell swoop. While waiting for his mark in the manse, he came across both Scaracci and Diamante, who he killed before Throné arrived to confront him. After deducing the whole thing was a setup between them to determine future leadership, they engaged each other in battle, with Throné defeating and mortally wounding him. Before dying, he encourages her to go after her freedom.
Pirro begins the battle by doing nothing as his first action.
At 66% of his maximum health, Throné will talk with Pirro, trying to convince him to stop fighting. Instead, Pirro steels his resolve, changing his stance and gaining an indefinite Increased Physical Attack buff and new abilities. Throné's latent power, Leave No Trace, and the latent power gauge become unlocked and immediately usable.
At 33% of his maximum health, Pirro will gain an indefinite Increased Speed buff and new abilities, along with the ability to enter boost mode.

Etymology[]
"Pirro" may be derived from the Sicilian word "piro," meaning "pear tree." The name may also be inspired by the personal name "Piro," a shortened form of the Italian "pietro," meaning "rock." As a third option, "Pirro" could be derived from the Greek word "pyrrhos," meaning "red." The first meaning may speak to Pirro's desire to lead a prosperous life, as pear trees are associated with health and prosperity; the second may symbolize his resilience, since rocks are often representative of grit and stability; and the third may refer to his bloody profession as an assassin, ultimately culminating in his untimely death.
Trivia[]
- Pirro is one of only three chapter bosses that was a temporarily playable character prior to their respective main character's story end, the others being Ritsu and Rai Mei.
- During the battle with Claude, a phantom version of Pirro is summoned to fight Throné and her allies.
- After his death, Pirro's gravestone rests in the New Delsta: Backstreets cemetery. By the start of Throné's Ch. 4, his gravestone bears a message carved by Claude: "I await where it all began."
