Professor Paul is a character in Octopath Traveler.
He was a tutor to Princess Mary when she was a young child. In the side story Princess Mary, Redux, Princess Mary reveals that Professor Paul has been sailing around an island nation outside the mainland for a better part of a decade, performing his unspecified research.
During the side story, Professor Paul's ship is set to return but sadly foundered on its way to Rippletide Harbor. Afterward, Paul can be found in Undertow Cove, where he mentions how he never thought his ship could go down and admits he is now without a clue as to where he is. When the player leads him to Princess Mary in Rippletide, the side story ends with their reunion.
