Path Actions are a recurring game mechanic that allows each traveler to interact with townspeople in unique ways.
In Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, every traveler is able to Inquire, but it can only done when the influence rank matches the NPCs' ones. When Inquiring, the following can be done:
| Action | Definition |
|---|---|
| Negotiate to obtain item they might have, including valuable accessories. | |
| Negotiate to have them follow you so that you can summon them in battle. | |
| File:Item Valuables (CotC).png Learn Information | Occasionally glean information on your surrounding. |
Negotiation[]
The way of negotiating with the NPCs change depending of their type of influence.
In Solistia, Night Path Actions are added.
Like in the main titles, failing in negotiating a number of times will hurt your Reputation.
Purification[]
The Path Action
Purify can be used on some NPCs in Hell after starting Purifying the Dead side quest. Fullfilling certain conditions will trigger an event allowing them to be purified. NPCs who can be purified will have their speech bubble glowing yellow and blue if they met the requirements for the purification.
Once someone is purified, they will disappear for good and they can't be interacted by any means.

Trivia[]
- Originally, the developers only planned to include the parameter of "fame" as a mechanic. When designing the game cycle for Champions of the Continent, the biggest difference from Octopath Traveler was the rapidly increasing number of player characters, which posed a challenge since the developers wanted each character to interact with their world as a "traveler." However, the development team decided that it wouldn't be very interesting if players could only create one path, and it would be more like Octopath Traveler if more paths were available. Incorporating human desires relevant to the real world, the trio of "wealth, power, and fame" were born.[1]
- NPCs in towns were originally going to respond more realistically to the wealth, power, and fame rankings; for instance, as the player's power increased, NPCs who valued power would greet them, as if currying favor with strength. However, the idea was scrapped due to labor costs.[1]
