- "The only reason I'm here is because Captain Kaldena saw fit to raise me up. Just as the inquisitor brought you into the church. 'The flame lights the way.' We just happen to be following our own flames. May the Sacred Flame guide you, Crick." —Ort
Ort Edgeworth[1] is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He is a member of the Sacred Guard and became so at the same time as his friend Crick Wellsley. After being ordained, Ort became the personal bodyguard to Captain Kaldena.
Biography[]
A knight of the Sacred Guard. Ever since the pontiff’s assassination came to light, the Sacred Guard has lost its authority and Sanctum Knights have resigned one after the other. Despite this, Ort continues to press on for the sake of his fallen comrades and his friend who perished fighting for what he believed in.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Ort has long black hair and wears the standard-issue armor of the Sacred Guard, in colors similar to Captain Kaldena's and Deputy Cubaryi's clothes. The normally blue accents are replaced by a deep wine red.
Personality[]
Much like his friend Crick, Ort is a steadfast and honest knight who is ready to rush into danger to protect anyone at a moment's notice. He originally professes his loyalty to Kaldena, but when he realizes her true nature, he seeks to oppose her villainous plans. After the death of Crick and the revelation of the truth behind the Sacred Guard, he becomes noticeably despaired over his loss, but still resolves to fight for his beliefs and to one day restore the people's faith in the Guard.
Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Ort first appeared in Canalbrine, as one of the Sanctum Knights assigned to investigate the recent murders of an apothecary and a renowned scholar. After the culprit Vados is apprehended by Temenos and Crick, Ort runs into the latter after his meeting with Captain Kaldena and exchanged praise and friendly words with him before parting ways.
He later attended Crick's funeral in Stormhail after his friend was found dead outside of the Sacred Guard headquarters.
While on a mission with Kaldena at the Rifted Rock outside of Nameless Village, he confronted and asked Kaldena over Crick's death as he found evidence of wounds caused from Kaldena's blade on his corpse, which allowed him to deduce that she was his true killer. Before he could further demand an explanation, Kaldena responded by attacking him and the other knights, severely wounding him. Later, when Temenos arrived at the scene, Ort, though gravely wounded, implored Temenos to stop Kaldena before it is too late.
Ort's Next Chapter[]
Some time later after recovering from his wounds and the aftermath of the Sacred Guard after Kaldena's death, Ort received word of insurgent remnants at Flamechurch and came to investigate after finding hidden records left by Vados. With some assistance, he found two hooded men outside of the church's underground passage discussing their plan before one of them went inside the cellars. After knocking out the one guarding the entrance, they followed the remaining one further inside and confronted him near a statue. After subduing him and the other two assailants, Ort departed the area to return to Stormhail with a fresh resolve to continue his investigation and strived to walk on a righteous path in honor of his deceased friend.
