- "Hahahaha! Bow down. For you stand in the presence of the creator Herself, the source of all life... Orsa, Mother of All!" —Sazantos to the Guardians of Light in the innermost level of Hell
Orsa is a character in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. She is the goddess who created the world and the mother of the Gods of Orsterra.
Story[]
Before the creation of Earth and Heaven, the Goddess Orsa was spawned by primordial Chaos and created the world. In Her loneliness, She created Finis in Her image as Her consort, and she had 13 children. At some point She was found deceased and Finis disappeared while mourning Her death. The gods would continue the task of shaping the land of Orsterra in the process.
The Goddess is found in the deepest layer of The Gate of Finis, plunged into a deep sleep. It is said that only the power of 8 of her children can awaken Her. Finis transformed them into rings in an attempt to resurrect Her, but changed his mind and decided to give the Divine Rings to humanity and test their worth.
In the events of the Bestower of All, She is partially resurrected by Sazantos by using the seven Divine Rings and Signa's lifeforce; and moved to the Heavens, beyond the Gate of Orsa. There, Orsa faintly tries to stop Sazantos from entering to the Gate, but the former Flameguard forces his entrance with both the Sacred and Accurst Flame. Upon meeting her in the Altar, he asks Her to bestow upon him the power of creation, to which Orsa acquiesces.
Sazantos fuses with Her in his last attempt to stop the Chosen One, with no avail. In their defeat, Sazantos' demonic sword Fisteralda, either answering the former Flameguard's desire of not wanting to die yet or Finis' desire of seeing his wife once more, absorbs both alongside the rings, transforming into an otherworldy entity born to grant mankind's wishes.[1]
What happened with her afterwards is not specified, but as Sazantos perished when the Bestower of All and the rings were purified, it is likely that She met the same fate as well.

Trivia[]
- Her cause of death is not exactly clear. While Finis insists she died upon birthing Galdera, Aelfric version states she was killed by Galdera's black flames upon knowing about her plan to distribute the land among the other gods, which is the version corroborated by the ex Flameguard. What is certain is the fallen god was somehow involved in her demise.
- Orsa is a clear contrast to Galdera.
- She is the first God in the existence while the thirteenth god is the last one.
- The thirteenth god's colors are red and black, while the Mother of All is gold and white.
- The dark god's body is mostly composed of the dead's flesh and bones. The Creator's body seems mostly mechanical.
- Galdera is an active schemer seeking to manifest in the world of the living through Lyblac. Orsa is resurrected by Sazantos as a pawn in his plan to create his ideal world and, due to being awakened by seven rings instead the eight (or because the rings were corrupted), She was in a state where She couldn't oppose the former Flameguard.
- In their respective battles, their cause of resurrection can be seen in their sprites and artworks. But while Kit (seen trapped in the Omniscient Eye) is used by Galdera as a vessel to gain a corporeal body against the travelers, Sazantos (seen in Orsa's womb) is commanding Orsa against the Chosen One.
- Or'sazantos, alongside the Bestower of All, have unique defeat animations in the Octopath series, with the Creator glowing from silver to red before vertically falling to dust.
- Their defeat animation is likely a nod to Kefka's in the final battle of Final Fantasy VI.
- Hirohito Suzuki about Or'sazantos': "Orsa with Sazantos inside her womb. She have a doll-like shape, in consonance with Sazantos's will to erase desire. There were actually three different arm shapes, but they were too big to fit on the memory, so I gave up. I'd like to upload them someday if I get the chance.".[2]
Etymology[]
Orsa is derived from "Orsus", a Latin word for "Beginning".
