- "This town here marks the edge of the Cliftlands. We don't got much in Orewell, but feel free to stay as long as you like." —Villager
Orewell is a location in Octopath Traveler and the setting for Alfyn's Chapter 4 tale. This forlorn village is situated alone amidst the cliffs, and many of its buildings are run-down.
Description[]
Orewell is a dilapidated hamlet, home the most evident poverty in Orsterra. Its few buildings are breaking, boards cover many of its houses' windows, and decrepit ropes dangle over the village's central chasm, as if they too are ready to fall into despair. Orewell spans a wide chasm, which cuts across the cliffs in the town's center, symbolizing the settlement's broken spirit. Orewell's name suggests that it was once a veritable well of ore which attracted prospectors from all over the world, who built a city on this gold rush location only to abandon the settlement as soon as its minerals depleted and its prosperity came to an end.

Trivia[]
- The price to restore reputation in Orewell is 6,000 leaves.
- According to NPCs in Quarrycrest, as well as a certain sidequest, Orewell is famous for producing whetstones that can sharpen even the dullest blade.
- The Egg Man in Quarrycrest also states that Orewell is home to a special rock known as the blazestone, which is "infused with volcanic heat" and can hatch a dragon egg.
- Orewell is one of two cities that harbor crows in the background, the other being Everhold. However, Orewell's crows are silent, whereas Everhold's caw continually.
- According to the biography of the villager standing by the entrance to the Forest of Rubeh, most of Orewell's young people choose to leave the village when they can, feeding into Orewell's increasing poverty.
- The Affable Merchant claims that her father "saw a dragon near here once." This rumor may be rooted in truth, given the proximity of the Dragonsong Fane and the Kaia, Mother of Dragons (III) quest.
- The biography of the Oblivious Townsperson claims that he has seen "a dragon sauntering through the town square," as well as "a deity manifesting to cavort with mortals." While both of these statements seem a bit outlandish, it is possible that a dragon once visited the area around Orewell, and the daughter of a dark god has been known to visit cities in the Cliftlands.
- The Old Man in one of Orewell's houses declares that the village used to be a lively mining town, but now it's nearly deserted. Orewell's decline may foreshadow the eventual downfall of another mining town, Quarrycrest.
- Orewell's name (ore + well) likely refers to the city's former mineral wealth.
- Orewell is the only Outer Ring city that does not sell any pharmaceutical ingredients, implying that the village is too poor to afford medical supplies.
