Octopuff Travelers are octopus-like rare enemies introduced in Octopath Traveler II. Similar to caits, Octopuff Travelers are generally hard to defeat, but offer high rewards when slain.

Mechanics[]

In Octopath Traveler II, there are three distinct levels of Octopuff Travelers, with the lowest level being split into eight type, one for each region.

Each octopuff has a 5% chance of dropping a stat-enhancing nut. The type of nut is specific to the octopuff type:

Name Region Nut Type
Snowland Octopuff Traveler Winterlands Magic Nut
Mountain Octopuff Traveler Crestlands Resistant Nut
City Octopuff Traveler Brightlands Light Nut
Island Octopuff Traveler Toto'haha Slippery Nut
Ocean Octopuff Traveler Harborlands Tough Nut
Desert Octopuff Traveler Hinoeuma Fortifying Nut
Forest Octopuff Traveler Leaflands Sharp Nut
Wasteland Octopuff Traveler Wildlands Critical Nut
Queen Octopuff Any Invigorating Nut
King Octopuff Any Nourishing Nut

Each octopuff traveler variety has the following stat characteristics :

  • Very low HP
  • High physical defense and elemental defense
  • Maximum speed and evasion (999)

When encountered, Octopuff Travelers will replace one of the normal encounter group enemies. During battle, all octopuff traveler varieties have a high chance to flee during their turn, denying their high rewards.

Encounters[]

Octopuff Travelers have a low chance to appear in most field locations and non-story dungeons.

All variety of octopuffs may be encountered on land or water, but have a higher chance of being encountered in the water.

Trivia[]

  • Octopuff Travelers are a thinly veiled reference to the series name, Octopath Traveler.
  • Each tier of Octopuff Traveler level has the same stats as their Cait counterpart (e.g., a King Octopuff has the same stats as a Chubby Cait).
  • Octopuff Travelers may be based off the flapjack octopus.
  • Octopuffs are the most independent of Solistia's demihumans. According to legend, they did not fight in the great war between demihumans and humans, instead preferring their lives of constant travel.
  • Octopuffs are viewed as symbols of good fortune; some say that only the pure of heart can encounter them.
  • Because Octopuffs are drawn to small, dark spaces, they can be lured into octopuff pots.
