Miza is a character in Octopath Traveler 0 and Champions of the Continent.
Story[]
An orphan who longed for parents, she was introduced to Monaris and his wife, who were looking for a daughter to adopt. Over time, she began to accept her adoptive parents. On every birthday, Monaris gave her flowers until she turned 18. At that time, her adoptive mother was killed by bandits, but she knew that it was Monaris who killed her so that he could take advantage of her without anyone realizing the truth of their father-daughter relationship. While in the public eye Monaris and Miza seemed like a happy family, Miza had begun to deeply hate Monaris, praying to the gods to give him the most gruesome death possible,[1] but she managed to perfectly hide it to keep the appearances.
At some point, she met and befriended Rinyuu.
Master of Power[]
She can be found in the Emberglow chapel, alongside Monaris and Phina. She can be interacted as a townspeople before the start of the Bestower of Fame.
Bestower of Fame[]
She appears as an NPC in the Emberglow Cathedral before the dinner scene. After the scene, she cannot be interacted by any means.
When the dinner is over, Miza heads to a confessional in the Cathedral. As she weeps, admitting she has something to confess, a hooded figure appears behind a veil.
Her disappearance alerts the travelers and Monaris, who rushes to find her.
Monaris would meet her at an altar located in the secret laboratory beneath the cathedral. While the priest was praising the gods for their mercy, Miza injects him with the enhanced scarlet elixir. As Monaris began to suffer the effects, Miza tells him she was granted the power to punish him for his crimes. By the time the travelers catch up with them, Monaris has already transformed into a villain. After putting the priest out of his misery, Rinyuu asks her why she did what she did, to which Miza, laughing uncontrollably, tells her there is no hope in the world, only despair. After that, she flees the place.
She would meet the hooded figure again. Calling her "daughter," the figure orders her to offer her hatred so her flames can extinguish the Sacred Flame. Miza, bowing down in reverence and calling her "god," complies.
Trivia[]
- The initial draft of Miza's journal in the Gate of Finis was so explicit that the former producer Hirohito rejected it on sight. Scenario writer Kakunoshin Futsuzawa admits that it might have been the worst script he's ever written.[2]
