- "I am Sir Miles of the Knights Ardante! And I will do my duty with honor, just as my father did before me." —In Flamesgrace after his sidequests are completed
Miles is a character in Octopath Traveler and in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. He is a member of the Knights Ardante on a journey to find out the truth behind his father’s dismissal from their service. He appears in the Sir Miles, Servant of the Flame chain of side stories.
Story[]
Miles is a young Knight Ardante posted in Flamesgrace. His questline follows him venturing through the cities of the Frostlands in search of news about his father, who was dishonorably discharged from the Knights on grounds of deserting in the midst of battle.
In Sir Miles, Servant of the Flame (I), Miles learns from the travelers that his father was looked kindly upon by former Knights. His father's good reputation seems to be at odds with his subsequent dishonor, leading Miles to suspect that his father was falsely accused. Miles sets out for Stillsnow hoping to uncover the truth.
In Sir Miles, Servant of the Flame (II), Miles seeks a test of his swordsman from the travelers. Having discovered that he still has a ways to improve, Miles also learns from Stillsnow's townspeople that his father once saved their village from ravaging monsters. His confidence bolstered that his father would not betray his duty, Miles continues to Northreach to learn why he was discharged.
In Sir Miles, Servant of the Flame (III), Miles hears rumors that his father's sword can be found in Northreach. Once the traveler deliver the Memorial Sword to him, Miles learns that his father gave his sword to the village so that the people could sell it to buy food and seeds. By the laws of the Knights Ardante, throwing away one's sword is considered desertion, no matter the cause; hence Miles's father sacrificed his Knighthood in order to help the people of Northreach.
Miles returns to Flamesgrace, confident in his father's honor and determined to become a Knight as valiant as him.
