- "War is something I've learned to live with. My brother... I know he killed a lot of people.... But I don't understand why. Why did we have to fight for so long?" —Mikka
Mikka Mishuyo is a character in Octopath Traveler II. She is the sister of Ritsu Mishuyo, who together endured a tough childhood as downtrodden lowborns in Ku.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Mikka has brown hair and wears a red kimono with a golden sash. She wields a staff in battle.
Personality[]
Mikka is a kind and gentle woman, accustomed to war but still saddened by its reality. She wonders why fighting is necessary and wishes for a peaceful life. Deep down, she holds a deep hatred for war, and is quick to lend a helping hand to the injured - not out of kindness, but guilt.
History[]
Early Life[]
During her childhood, Mikka grew up alongside her older brother Ritsu and her father, who was an oil peddler. However, she would suffer the loss of her father at the hands of Ku soldiers when he attempted to advertise his wares to them. While at his grave, both siblings meet Prince Hikari Ku, who came from the castle to pay his respects and vow to find the one responsible for their father's murder.
Story[]
Eight years later, Mikka witnesses the coup on Ku spearheaded by General Mugen, which claims many lives. She is one of the few who survive, likely due to Ritsu serving Mugen. Later on, when he is promoted to general after his superior's death, her brother visits her and gifts her a new kimono prior to Hikari's assault on Ku, promising that he would return.
After the attack on Ku, which ended in Hikari's victory and his ascension to king, Mikka is visited by Hikari at the Crest of Heroes, offering his apologies for Ritsu's death, to which she expresses her understanding. She reminds Hikari of their first meeting, and looking to the sky, she notes that there isn't a cloud in sight.
Mikka's Next Chapter[]
During Ku's reconstruction, Mikka wishes to take part in the efforts, though she is noted by Benkei to have been running herself ragged due to overwork, as well as her deteriorating clothes.
At Cropdale, after hearing of Mikka's plight, Garud Bristarni tailors her a new kimono with Pala delivering it back to Ku personally. Grateful for the gift, Mikka invites Pala back to her home for a meal, which the latter enjoys. Seeing kindred spirits in each other, the two form a strong friendship, with Mikka gifting one of her earrings to Pala before the latter returns to Cropdale.

Etymology[]
"Mikka" (or "Mika") is a name of Japanese origin with several potential meanings, including "beautiful fragrance" or "three trees."
Mikka's surname, "Mishuyo," may be a variant of the Japanese name "Mitsuyo," which is derived from the Japanese characters "mitsu" (meaning "light" or "shine") and "yo" (meaning "generation" or "world"). Mikka's surname may therefore allude to her desire to improve or "brighten" the prospects of Ku's lowborn class.
