Story[]
Before her daughters Ellen and Flynn were born, Marlene lost her husband in an accident at sea. She worked hard to provide for them in their father's absence, though her family fell into poverty.
During the time a mysterious illness plagued Goldshore, one of Marlene's two daughters, Flynn, caught the illness and was bedridden. Luckily, a traveling apothecary named Vanessa came by with a treatment to reduce her fever. As Marlene saw Vanessa off, Alfyn entered her home, having been told about the issue by Marlene's other daughter, Ellen. He sought to take a look at Flynn, only for Marlene to coldly dismiss him as a "scruffy-looking stranger" and announce that her daughter had already been treated by a professional.
This was not the end of Marlene's troubles, however, as Flynn started to develop a nasty cough shortly after. Marlene immediately sought out Vanessa in the Manor District, but the treatment was too expensive. Marlene offered her entire savings, which was much less than her asking price, and begged her for the treatment, but Vanessa refused to sell it. Devastated and at a loss at what to do, Marlene left the area.
She found her way to a statue and prayed for help for her daughter. As she did so, she was asked by Alfyn, the same scruffy apothecary she dismissed earlier, if he could help her with her daughter's illness. After some hesitation, she agreed to let him help.
After Alfyn looked at Flynn and determined that the cough was a side-effect due to the treatment Vanessa had given her earlier, which was made of Gaborra evergreen, he asked her about a moss that was the cure for the cough. Marlene stated she knew nothing about it, but recommended that Alfyn inquire around town for information.
After Alfyn defeated Vanessa and returned from the Caves of Azure with the moss in hand, Marlene watched as he created the tonic and administered it to Flynn, who was cured of her cough. She sincerely thanked Alfyn for his help and apologized for her earlier attitude towards him.
