(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...)
The following section contains potential story spoilers!

H’aanit, alongside Linde and Hägen, journey into the Spectrewood in the Highlands in search of Z'aanta. They are soon confronted by the Lord of the Forest.

Battle[]

The Lord of the Forest will begin the battle with 7 shields, but will gain more (see below).

  • Quagmire: Physical attack, single target. Chance to inflict silence.
  • Compost: Physical attack, single target. Chance to inflict unconsciousness.
  • Wind rushes through the trees...: Lord of the Forest enters boost mode for one turn. Uses Forest Ire if not broken by Lord of the Forest's next action. May be used as a free action during its turn.
    • Forest Ire: Elemental damage, Type Lightning. Targets entire party.
  • Consume Life: Used when Lord of the Forest recovers from a break while under 50% of its maximum HP. All of the following effects are applied each time:

    • Weeping Treant
    • Toxic Spore
    • Flitting Fungoid
    • But it quickly withers away...: Lord of the Forest fails to summon any more minions once all three minion groups have been summoned. No additional minions can be summoned for the rest of the battle.

Trivia[]

  • The Lord of the Forest has the highest amount of HP of all the Chapter 2 bosses.
  • If the Lord of the Forest is defeated while its minions are still alive, all the minions will disappear as well, regardless of minion health.
  • It is left ambiguous if the Lord of the Forest is mortal or a guardian spirit, though it being a deer made out of woven wood implies that it's the latter. H'aanit's story Journal supports this theory, calling it "an unearthly presence."
  • H'aanit refers to the Lord of the Forest as if she's familiar with it, suggesting that this creature is well-known in hunting lore.
  • The boss sprite artists accentuated the image of a withered tree and branches to emphasize the Lord of the Forest's strength, but they also designed this best with the idea in mind that its body would grow leaves, sprout flowers, and even grow fruit depending on the season.[1]
