- "Revenge is nothing, Osvald. It is empty and hollow." —Lady Clarissa
Lady Clarissa is a character in Octopath Traveler II. She is Osvald's research assistant, introduced in his Chapter 3 story, where she serves as a mini-boss. She believes that Osvald is innocent and watches over his study in his absence.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Lady Clarissa has short blond hair, wears a blue dress, and wields a long staff in battle.
Personality[]
Clarissa is kind and devoted to Osvald, having protected his study from thieves in his absence. She maintains an unwavering faith in his innocence and resolves to follow the advice of her late husband, seeking to forgive and move on rather than hold grudges against the men who wronged him; as such, she counsels Osvald against the hollow path of revenge, warning him that vengeance will not fill the void in his heart.
As a scholar, Clarissa also exhibits a deep curiosity in her studies for the seventh source of magic. Despite her ladylike demeanor, she is not afraid to say what needs to be said, and her words have brought many scholars to tears during discussions. Only her late husband could win an argument with her.
History[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Prior to Story[]
During Clarissa's early life, she studied at an academy alongside Cohazeh, who was her friend before both went their separate ways. At some point, Clarissa settled in Conning Creek, where she met and married a man named Ethan, who worked as a member of Conning Creek's guard. Eventually she was introduced to Osvald V. Vanstein, a renowned scholar, and became his assistant during his research into the One True Magic. However, fate took a terrible turn when Osvald was arrested for the murder of his family, a deed which Clarissa believed he was innocent of. Her husband was murdered shortly afterward by Captain Stenvar when he attempted to inquire about a shady deal between Stenvar and Harvey. For the next five years since Osvald was sent to Frigit Isle, Clarissa watched over his study to ensure nothing else was stolen after his research notes were taken by Harvey.
Story[]
One day, Clarissa came across a man claiming to be Osvald in the study, in which she battled him to test his identity. After she was defeated, she welcomed him back, though she was saddened to find the Osvald was hell-bent on getting revenge on Harvey and those who were involved in his family's murder. After attempting to dissuade him from his path before and after his confrontation with Stenvar, Clarissa watched as Osvald left Conning Creek to confront Harvey in Montwise.
Later on, she would take Elena, Osvald's daughter, into her care after her ordeal with Harvey to help her recover from her memory loss and injuries and seeing off Osvald once again on his next journey to find the other associates that Harvey was connected with.
Lady Clarissa's Next Chapter[]
While paying her respects in the graveyard one day, she decided to go on a journey to Toto'haha to look at the ruins there with an escort (and encouragement from Elena). There, she reunited with her old classmate, Cohazeh, who was the leader of her village before both set out to the ruins near the Tombs of the Wardenbeasts. After talking about the history of the beastlings and reminiscing about their academy days while visiting the ruins, they both agreed to meet up again another time to continue their discussion.Quotes[]
