"How dare you speak to me like that! If you won't leave, then I will swat you like the annoying fly you are!" —Before battle

La'mani is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He is the manager of New Delsta's theater, and the boss of Agnea’s chapter 2.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

La'mani is a portly man with stylized blond hair and a mustache, wearing a regal black suit and a top hat. He has a penchant for twirling his mustache.

Personality[]

Believing that the arts are sacred, La'mani deeply respects first-class opera and actors, but disdains everything else. He is spoiled and egotistical, believing his theater to be the sole gem of the city and balking at the idea that anyone could compete with him. He is so insecure regarding this sense of superiority that he trashes Gil's tavern after it starts rising in popularity thanks to Agnea's dancing. He is incredibly pathetic and weak, as after his humiliation at Agnea's hands, he attempted to pick a fight with a stray dog, only to end up overwhelmed when its friends came out to attack him. After yet another defeat at Veronica's hands, La'mani finds himself overwhelmed by Agnea's performance, and he once more demonstrates his vacillating nature when he claims against his will that he's become her fan.

Story[]

(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...)
The following section contains potential story spoilers!

La'mani is first seen in Agnea's chapter 2, where he is accosting a man named Gil who attempted to see his show without a ticket. Shortly afterward, he receives word that Gll's tavern is suddenly rising in popularity thanks to a dancer's presence. Jealous of its success, he trashes the tavern, bumping into Agnea beforehand. After Agnea receives word of his actions, she confronts him at his theater and demands an apology, causing a fight.

Afterwards, Agnea is victorious and Dolcinaea reveals herself as witness to the entire thing. She forces La'mani to swear to leave the tavern alone, lest she will refuse to perform at his theater, publicly humiliating La'mani.

Later on in chapter 4, La'mani reappears again, having hired several thugs to kidnap Agnea so he can exact revenge upon her. Right as she's about to reach the stage, she is confronted by La'mani, though she does not recognize him, further enraging him. He reveals that after his humiliation, he got into a fight with a dog in the streets only to be overwhelmed, further humiliating him. Swearing revenge that day, he prepares to attack Agnea once more, only to be immediately floored by the intervention of Veronica, who subdues him with a single strike to the stomach.

After the performance, La'mani confronts her once more, though this time not out of malice, but of sheer amazement. He states that he was utterly moved by her performance and that he has regrettably become her fan, much to the confusion of Agnea.

Etymology[]

"La'mani" may be a variant of "Lamani," a name of Romani origin meaning "bright" or "shining." In various cultures, "Lamani" also means "lemon." Thus, La'mani's name reflects his brilliant stage presence as well as the sour effect of his egotistical personality.

Trivia[]

  • La'mani has the lowest HP of all chapter bosses whose recommended levels range from 14–18 in Octopath Traveler II.
  • During La'mani's second confrontation with Agnea at Merry Hills, the pre-boss interlude theme ("In Pursuit of Hope") will begin to play before being interrupted before the fight actually begins due to Veronica stopping it. This marks the first and currently only time in the series where the game fakes a boss fight with an interlude.
  • As a summonable NPC, La'mani wields a staff in battle. His Dance Session ability is Nocturne of Sang.
  • La'mani appears to have a son, as according to the biography of a six-year-old boy standing outside of the Delsta Theater's gates, the manager of the local theater is his father. This courteous boy is very knowledgeable about theater and actors and holds a deep respect for his father, who taught him everything he knows.
  • Criticisms about La'mani have recently caused one of the theater's wealth investors to visit the establishment himself, disguised as a guest, to learn the truth.
