Personality[]
Judge Astell is known in Timberain as an art collector and a rival to Count Rousseau. Although Astell purports to be an upright justice, he abuses his position to steal valuable treasures and has been known to mete out the death penalty to cover his own crimes.
History[]
Not much is known about Astell's early life, though at some point, he became a judge in Timberain's court and oversaw many cases, most notably the trial and death sentencing of two people who allegedly stole the Sapphire Wreath, a valuable treasure of Timberain's royal family. In reality, the actual thief was Astell himself, as he was known to plunder and keep many treasures and heirlooms, and, using his position of power, was able to keep himself out of prison.
One day, fifteen years later, after a trial that proved someone innocent, Judge Astell and the court's prosecutor were seen outside of the court speaking about the lost Sapphire Wreath when Astell used the term "black treasure" to describe it. This term caught the attention of Meylan, the guard at the gate and the son of the two people that were executed for its theft.
At some point after sentencing a thief named Nero to 80 years in prison for the theft of the Azure Sun Sword, Astell was murdered by Meylan as revenge for his parents' deaths. While on trial, Meylan revealed Astell's lies to the court and the fact that he was the real thief all along of the Sapphire Wreath. Despite the revelation, Meylan was sentenced to life imprisonment for Astell's murder.
