Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Not much is known about Jörg's early life, though at some point he found and met Alpates and, seeing her importance, kept her safe in a hidden chamber above the cathedral accessed only through a hidden door in his chambers built by a carpenter many years prior. Jörg took in Roi and Temenos as foundlings and raised them as his own, appointing them as Inquisitors to root out the rising heresies against the church.
One day, Jörg paid a visit to the church where Temenos and Sister Mindt were putting on a play for the children present and was greeted warmly by the group before pulling Temenos aside and asking him to meet him in the cathedral later on that night. On the way there, he spoke with Lucian, a renowned scholar about an unknown matter.
While waiting for Temenos in the cathedral, Jörg was confronted by unknown assailants who set up a lure to bring Felvarg, a fearsome beast, inside the church, where it proceeded to fatally wound the pontiff. Before his murder, he hid an excerpt of the Book of Night in the church podium for Temenos to find.
The pontiff's death set the motion for the start of a dark ritual as well as for Temenos to solve the mystery behind the murders of those involved.

Trivia[]
- Pontiff Jörg serves as similar role to Archbishop Josef from the original Octopath Traveler, as both are high-ranking figures in the church who take in their games' respective clerics as orphans and suffer secret murders at the hands of heretics.
- Despite his significant role in the beginning of Temenos's story, Pontiff Jörg only appears alive in two cutscenes.
