Inventor is an advanced job introduced in Octopath Traveler II.
As the name suggests, it is a job that involves inventing various weapons that take multiple turns to build but are often quite powerful when used. Giving the Inventor character more materials gives players more weapons to work with.

Unlike most other jobs, no JP are required to learn any of the skills. Instead, each skill is unlocked when the respective invention is completed and automatically learned by all party members, including the support abilities.

Proof Location[]

The Inventor job may be unlocked by speaking with Arkar inside his house at Eastern New Delsta Highroad in the Brightlands and obtaining the Proof of the Inventor from him.

Skills[]

Skill Name SP Type Description
Changeable Catapult 0 Unleash an attack on all foes with a selected weapon.
Springy Boots 0 Cause a single ally to act first for 5/6/7/8 turns.
Critical Scope 0 Turn all damage dealt to a single foe into critical damage for 4/5/6/7 turns.
Elemental Bomb Bottle 0 Deal the same type of damage as a foe's exposed elemental weak points 1/2/3/4 time(s).
Tin Horn 0 Fill the latent power gauge of all allies.
Hastening Hammer 0 Unleash a highly powerful physical attack on a single foe, and reduce the crafting time of an invention by 1 turn.
Arkar's Coil 0 Restore 40%/60%/80%/100% of a single ally's HP and SP, and grant them 1/2/3/4 BP. Incapacitated allies will also be revived.
All-Purpose Tool 0 [Divine Skill] Begin crafting all inventions.

To unlock additional Inventor skills, the associated tool must first be "invented" by Arkar. To do this, certain items must be obtained and brought to their associated display case at Arkar's House:

Inventor skills work differently from those of any other jobs. None require SP, but all but the Divine skill can only be used once per battle before needing to be crafted to be reused (by selecting the skill again). Most take 3 turns to craft, though Changeable Catapult only requires one. Once a skill has been used, the amount of turns needed to craft is displayed in the skill selection. All skills will automatically be reset after a battle.

Support Skills[]

Support Skill Name No. of Skills Unlocked Total JP Description
A Step Ahead 4 - The equipping character will act first in battle.
Upgraded Accessories 5 - Raises the attributes of the equipping character's accessories.
BP in Adversity 6 - Grants the equipping character 2 BP when near death
Fruits of Labor 7 - Raises the physical defense and elemental defense of the equipping character by 1 for every job skill learned (+#)

Strategies[]

  • Of all the characters to give the Inventor job to, none are more uniquely suited for it than Throné Anguis. Throné’s Latent Power, Leave No Trace, gives her two turns, and this allows her to create machines at a faster rate than most characters. This, coupled with her speed, means she’ll also get a chance to go first and build her weapons before they have a chance to attack.
    • In the event that you attach Inventor to someone else, nonetheless keep Throné around: if she Disguises herself as the Inventor, her copies of the Inventions will have their own independent cooldowns, allowing you to conveniently use everything twice.
  • The second most viable choice for Inventor is Partitio Yellowil, as his Latent Power lets him use the inventions at their best. Combine this with A Step Ahead and Partitio can use any invention he wants at full power right from the word go, potentially either winning fights right when they start or doing enough damage that the fight ends shortly thereafter.
  • Agnea Bristarni's Latent Power and Dancer Divine skill let her apply inventor skills to all enemies or allies. While it takes her (much) longer to regenerate her Inventions, she is able to be much more impactful; a party-wide Arkar's Coil can single-handedly salvage a losing fight.
