Hired Help is a Merchant Skill in Octopath Traveler.
Effect[]
Hired Help uses leaves instead of SP to perform one of the following actions based on the amount paid:
Every variation strikes all foes. The damage dealt is independent from the user's attack stats; it is determined only by a constant attack power value and enemy defense. Cheaper selections tend to deal little to no damage the later in the game you are, but Hired Help remains a useful alternative for breaking enemies due to its wide selection of attack types and its ability to multi-hit all targets.
Boost: Each boost level increases the number of attacks by the hired help by +1, up to a maximum of 4 attacks. The damage dealt per attack decreases slightly for each boost, but the overall damage is still higher.

- Aelfric's Auspices applies the
Aelfric's Auspices buff for 3 turns, causing this skill to trigger twice for no additional cost
- Collect obtains money from the foe, with chance of success inversely corresponding to the foe's HP, empowering this skill
- Bifelgan's Bounty deals generic elemental damage to one foe and provides money equal to the damage dealt, empowering this skill
- Mole Dance applies the
Increased Physical Defense buff, stacking with the hired Mercenary's secondary effect
- Armor Corrosive applies the
Decreased Physical Defense debuff to one foe, letting the hired helpers (except the Cleric) deal more damage
- Celestial Intervention removes all debuffs from an ally and applies the
Celestial Intervention (Ally) buff to them, or removes all buffs from a foe and applies the
Celestial Intervention (Enemy) debuff to them, in tandem with the hired Mercenary's secondary effect
- Elemental Break attacks one foe with a
Staff and applies the
Decreased Elemental Defense debuff to them, in tandem with the hired Cleric
Support Skills[]
- Persistence on the equipping character increases the duration of buffs they receive by +1 turn (max. 9), in tandem with the hired Mercenary
- Surpassing Power increases the damage cap of this skill to 99,999
- The Show Goes On on the equipping character increases the duration of buffs they apply by +1 turn (max. 9), in tandem with the hired Mercenary
- Snatch doubles the loot you obtain upon success, doubling the money obtained via Collect to empower this skill
- Insult to Injury on the equipping character increases the duration of debuffs and status ailments they inflict by +1 turn (max. 9), in tandem with the hired Dancer
- Elemental Aid multiplies the damage of elemental skills by ×1.5 while multiplying their SP cost by ×2; but Hired Help costs no SP to use. Use in tandem with the hired Cleric.
- Augmented Elements multiplies the damage of elemental skills by ×1.2, in tandem with the hired Cleric
