The Highlands are a mountainous region in southeastern Orsterra. This region includes the towns of Cobbleston (home to the warrior Olberic), Stonegard, and Everhold.
Located in the foothills and peaks of the mountains, the Highlands is a rugged land, bereft of most vegetation. Its many caves house brigands, ancient ruins, and the remnants of lost kingdoms, testifying to its ancient legacy as the home of Hornburg and the Gate of Finis. The sun shines red over the peaks in the southern Highlands, lending them a foreboding atmosphere.
The Highlands are bordered by the Coastlands to the north and the Sunlands to the west. This region is also known to house the Shrine of the Thunderblade and the secret Shrine of the Runeblade, along with the Kingdom of Altinia (ruled by the Wise King Solon).
History[]
For over 200 years, the Highlands was controlled by the kingdom of Hornburg, which was brought to ruin after a civil war eight years prior to the start of the game. Following the civil war, the remaining lords fought for control of the region, and their skirmishes continue to this very day.
The Highlands was also once home to the Ventus Dynasty. Although the dynasty collapsed after a civil war between rival princes, remnants of its majesty remain buried in the Tomb of Kings.
Since the Highlands are located in steep mountains, its main industries are the cultivation of vegetables, fruits, and dairy. With the advent of parchment paper the region become known for producing paper using its high-quality timber.

Trivia[]
- The Highlands hosts several fallen kingdoms, namely Hornburg, Bernstein and Granatt.
- This region's landscape was modeled off the mountains of Germany, while its buildings and topography were inspired by Corippo, Switzerland.[1]
- Concept artist Naoki Ikushima comments, "The mountain towns may seem bleak with their rugged expanses of rock, but the area really stands out from other regions as a life lived above the tree line. I sure love some soaring mountains!" [2]
