- "Ahaha... Hello, my little fishies... Are you having the time of your lives this evening?" —Hermes
Hermes is a character in Octopath Traveler II. She appears during Temenos's Chapter 2 and makes a cameo in Agnea's final chapter.
Hermies is a famous and beloved dancer from Canalbrine, also known as “the Goddess of Canalbrine." She is recognized as one of the top five dancers in the land, rivaling even the superstar Dolcinaea in popularity. Her older sister is a 26-year old scholar in Montwise, who worries for and supports her.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Hermes has long black hair and performs in red dancer garb. She wields a dagger in combat.
Personality[]
Although she may come across as arrogant due to her fame and nickname, Hermes is kind and fair to others, as shown when she defends her competitor Laila during a rigged dancing competition. Hermes takes dancing seriously and shows anger towards others who "sully the art of dancing," as evidenced when she strikes and fires her own manager after he cheats to ensure her victory.
Hermes feels like a dolphin when she is dancing, claiming that her art leaves her alone in an ocean of her feelings. She refers to her audience as "my little fishies," and describes all those who would interfere with honest dancing as predators of the deep.
History[]
Hermes originally learned her craft for the Dancers' Guild in Wellgrove, and went on to become one of Solistia's most famous dancers.
One night, while performing at the tavern in Canalbrine, Hermes came under sudden attack by Vados, an agent of the Moonshade Order who was bent on killing her to fulfill a dark ritual. However, she was saved by Crick, a Sanctum Knight who was accompanied by Temenos, an inquisitor of the church.
Later, Hermes performed at the Stage of the Moon and Sun during the Grand Gala as the act before Agnea and Dolcinaea started their performance.
Some time later on, Hermes entered a dancing competition in Merry Hills. After her performance, she watched a young dancer named Laila attempt to perform, but kept slipping on stage repeatedly before she left humiliated. Concerned, Hermes went to find Laila, who was sulking on a bridge above the main road, to make sure she was okay before asking to see the shoes she used for the competition, which were discovered to secrete oil, thereby causing the wearer to slip. Going back to the theater, they discovered the same judge that gave Laila the trick shoes and Hermes' manager together, both having conspired to sabotage the other competitors together to ensure Hermes' victory, much to the anger of both dancers. After the manager was fired and the judge subdued, Hermes explained the situation and apologized to the other judges, causing her to be disqualified from the competition. However, at Laila's request, both shared the stage together for a wonderful performance, with both dancers winning the competition.
