Gus is a minor character in Octopath Traveler II. He is Cropdale's tavernkeep and appears during Agnea's story.

Gus wears his long brown hair in a ponytail. He wields an axe in combat.
Personality[]
Gus is a generous and kindhearted tavernkeeper, giving Agnea 1,000 leaves to enable her to pursue her life's dream. Although reluctant to face danger, he demonstrates bravery in accompanying Agnea to the Veil of Trees and fending off a duorduor.
Story[]
Not much is known about Gus's early life, though he knew Agnea since they were kids. He went on to run Cropdale's tavern while Agnea performed there for work. One night, after Agnea collected tips after her dancing performance, Gus gave her the remaining money she needed to make 10,000 leaves to start her journey to stardom.
The next day, while Agnea was assisting with the preparations for the town's festival, Gus came up to her, informing her that her sister Pala had not returned from the forest where she was harvesting raspberries. In addition, he had discovered a duorduor's hoofprint. They both made their way in the forest, where they came across the hungry dourdour, who attacked them before it was defeated and subdued by the duo. Afterwards, Pala was found and the group headed back in to town for the festival.
The following day, Gus and the others saw Agnea off at the town entrance, where she began her journey to stardom.
Later, Gus made his way to Merry Hills along with Agnea's family and friends to support her during her battle again Dolcinaea on the Stage of the Moon and Sun, where he witnessed Agnea's victory.

Etymology[]
"Gus" is a shortened form of the Latin name "Augustus," derived from the term "augere" (meaning "to increase" and often interpreted as "great"). Gus's name reflects his role in increasing Agnea's savings and demonstrating his great heart.
