The Guide is a minor character in Octopath Traveler II. He appears during Throné's Chapter 4, operating the gondola to Lostseed.

Personality[]
As the solitary operator of the Lostseed's gondola, the Guide is an enigmatic and somewhat eerie man. He speaks in a slow, steady manner, offering passage to anyone who rides the gondola while delivering tales of the past and hints about Lostseed's origin. As one of Claude's countless children, the Guide believes that everyone has a role to fulfill, and he is fulfilling his by operating the gondola; he never appears to have resisted his place in life nor the horrors that go on within Lostseed.
Story[]
Years ago, the Guide accompanied Throné's mother, Marietta, along the gondola to Lostseed. She requested that he tell her a story to calm her nerves, and so he delivered the tale that he gives to everyone coming to Lostseed: the story of the city's founding, created when a prince and princess of rival kingdoms fell and love and eloped with their loyal retainers, founding Lostseed while their original kingdoms collapsed into war.
In the interim, the Guide continued to operate the gondola, providing passage between the ancient city and the Deserted Highroad.
When Throné first travels along the Deserted Highroad, she comes across the ancient gondola run by the Guide. He offers her passage to Lostseed, narrating the city's history just as he did for her mother. As the journey continues, he makes several vague yet foreboding remarks, alluding to the way the gondola's gears seem to turn back time and reveal that they're all children of the same someone "if you go back far enough." Throné notes that he reminds her of someone, but she cannot put her finger on whom.
Once Throné reaches the other end of the gondola, the Guide parts ways with her while she continues into Lostseed. Before leaving, Throné realizes that he reminds her of the Elderly Guard at Mother's Orphanage, who is later revealed to be the Guide's brother.
The Guide returns in the sidequest Mira and the Elderly Guard's Next Chapter, where he meets the Elderly Guard and guides him to Lostseed to reunite with Mira.
