Guardian of the Tainted Flame is an enemy in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent in the Bestower of Fame storyline. It is the Chapter II's boss.

This accursed guardian is summoned by Ceraphina to protect the now Accurst Flame in the stolen lanthorn while buying her time to escape to her next destination.
Battle[]
- The Trial Begins // Show me your true power.: Start of battle and after the Wisp(s) are not longer on the battlefield. Summons the Dark Wisp of Ruin/Dark Wisp of Death to the battlefield. Summons both Wisps at 50% HP.
- Attack - Deal standard physical damage to single target.
- Pyre - Deal
damage to single target. - Sweep - Deal damage to Front.
- Baleful Star - Deal damage to Front.
- Trial of the Darkest Depths - Start of next turn after summoning the Dark Wisp of Death. Inflict Fatal Sentence (The traveler will be not able to fight at the end of the effect turn) to Front for 6 turns. Effect is removed upon break.
- The power of the corrupted flames gathers.: At 60% HP or less. Guardian of the Tainted Flame enters boost mode. Uses Fell Baleful Star or Cataclysmic Baleful Star (at 50% or less) if not broken before its next action.
- Fell Baleful Star: Deal damage to Front.
- Cataclysmic Baleful Star: Deal damage to Front.

- Dark Wisp of Ruin's darkness crawls...: Cast Countdown on self for 4 turn. It will be followed by Self-immolation if is not defeaed before the countdown's end.
- Self-immolation: Deal damage to Front and take up to 100% damage of max HP from Self.

- Dark Wisp of Ruin's darkness deepens...: Does nothing, basacilly skip its action.

- Given this fight occurs long before the events of Octopath Traveler and the guardian's fate is not stated, its unknown if this Guardian was purified and is the one fought as the Guardian of the First Flame in Ophilia's Chapter I or if another ancient remnant took its place after the previous's defeat.
