Grimsand Ruins is a location in Octopath Traveler and the dungeon of H'aanit's Chapter 4.

Located to the west of Marsalim, Grimsand Ruins can only be accessed after H'aanit's Chapter IV-7 is completed, when the Knights Ardante and Marsalim Guards—led by Eliza—carve a path through Grimsand Road.

Description[]

Grimsand Ruins is one of the largest dungeons in Octopath Traveler, haunted by the demonic Redeye. This underground desert ruins is steeped in ominous red light, casting a foreboding aura over every broken pillar, crumbling statue, and sprawling stair. Murals of angels and griffins line certain walls and archways, advancing a sense of ancient mystery supported by the many plinths and statues distributed throughout the latter half of the ruins. The ruins's pillars bear an uncanny resemblance to those in the Ebony Grotto, suggesting that this imposing structure might once have been a temple of the Dark God. A secret message is carved into the boss room’s pillar: a wrenching plea from Redeye, in a rare moment of lucidity, for someone to put him out of his misery.

Trivia[]

  • Grimsand Ruins has the longest load times of any dungeon in the game.
  • Many of Grimsand Ruins' monsters are partially petrified, implying that Redeye's curse affects beasts in addition to humans. These stone monsters can still be encountered even after Redeye's death, contradicting the lore that Redeye's death reverses its petrification. As such, Redeye's death may only reverse the petrifcation of its human victims.
  • Grimsand Ruins contains murals of angels, along with a griffin, which were modeled off Babylonian murals.[1]
  • After defeating Redeye, players can return to the ruins to find a secret message inscribed on the fallen pillar in the boss room.
