"Why not just die already? Don't worry, I'll look after your lands and- Eh?" —To Rosa

Greg is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He is the nephew of Rosa Glenville, the lady of Winterbloom. He appears during Castti's Chapter 2: Winterbloom Route.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Greg wears a red coat trimmed with gold and sports a pompous hairstyle.

Personality[]

Greg is selfish, greedy, and unscrupulous. Though he claims to seek the good of the town, his willingness to kidnap his own cousin and hire reckless thugs reflects poorly on his character. In addition to lacking scruples, he lacks courage; after his hired thieves shove him aside, he breaks down into tears over his failure, though he presumably apologizes for this behavior after the fact.

Even after his reform, Greg remains quite lazy, preferring to let Melia handle all of the work of leadership.

Biography[]

Rosa’s nephew. He aims to assume control of the Glenville estate and accelerate Winterbloom’s development. While he means well, his hasty and presumptive nature fails to endear him to anyone. This latest incident has caused him to reflect on his words and deeds.

Story[]

As the eldest son of a poor noble family with a long history, Greg eventually began to feel that his aunt was stuck in her old ways. Therefore he began making plans to develop Winterbloom into a bustling metropolis like Clockbank, as he was next in line to inherit the Glenville estate upon Rosa's death, seeing as Melia was not of age.

One day, Greg decides to visit his aunt while his cousin is out. During their unpleasant conversation, Melia appears alongside Castti, an apothecary who had treated Rosa before. Melia chews him out for his behavior before agreeing to escort him to the door. Once outside, Greg knocks Melia unconscious and leaves a ransom note demanding that Castti come to the tavern in Winterbloom: Thieves' Quarter alone.

When Castti arrives, Greg appears alongside a trio of thieves he hired as backup, demanding Castti cease treating Rosa and leave Winterbloom immediately, with the promise that he will return Melia home when she is gone. Unfortunately, Plukk, the leader of the group, knocks Greg aside and engages the apothecary in a battle despite his protests, only to be defeated and knocked out. Shaken, Greg laments the failed plan. He is reprimanded by Castti and told to turn himself in to Rosa, as well as reflect on his character.

Some time later, Greg confesses to Rosa his role in her daughter's kidnapping and apologizes to Melia for his actions. On Melia's 12th birthday, Rosa bequeaths her title and lands to both Melia and Greg before she passes away.

Melia's Next Chapter[]

While Melia begins working tirelessly as the new lady of House Glenville, Greg does not help much due to his lack of confidence in work. One day, Melia receives a report from Lily about another burglary in town━ it was caused by a small group of Snowhares led by Plukk, and a discreet investigation is conducted on the Snowhares' true motives. Greg is for the idea of feigning ignorance before arresting them, but is dismissed by Lily. The group is invited into the manse by Melia herself, where she reveals to them that she already knew of their plans. She brings them into her garden, hoping to hire them as her new gardeners, which they accept.

Quotes[]

"*sigh* Melia's given me piles of work to keep me busy." —In Winterbloom (day)
"... I hope one day, I can make my mother as proud as Melia did hers." —In Winterbloom (night)
"Heh, you've come to the right person for help!" —When recruited
"I'm exhausted... I think it'll be some time before my next journey." —Parting Ways
"Heh. I'm not too shabby in a fight, either, I'll have you know!" —When Challenged
"Why is there a monster in the town!?" —When Provoked
"Enough! Stop that!" —Path Action failure

Etymology[]

"Greg" is a shortened form of the name "Gregory," which is derived from the Greek name "Grēgórios" and the Latin name "Gregorius." The name means "watchful" or "vigilant," highlighting Greg's close watch on Rosa and his eagerness to replace her as Winterbloom's ruler.

Trivia[]

  • Throné claims that Greg has "the most pretentious hairstyle," and she admits to Castti that she would have killed him three times already if it had been up to her.
  • During the game's epilogue, Greg is seen seeking employment from Thurston, who offers to put in a good word for his "passionate youth."
  • As a summonable NPC, Greg wields a bow in battle. His Dance Session ability is Incantation.
