"Glacis... Those beautiful wings, so wide they all but cover the continent!" —Master Juvah

Glacis is a boss in Octopath Traveler II. She is one of the three Creatures of Legend, serving as the boss of Ochette's Chapter 2: Glacis's Route story.

The following section contains potential story spoilers!
"It is said that Stormhail owes its existence to its guardian, Glacis. Residing on the Sacred Peak Altahe, it is thought that Glacis put an end to the cold snap that nearly spelled doom for all who lived here." —the Mercantile Manuscript

Many years ago, Glacis smote apart a blizzard that threatened to engulf the land around Stormhail. The scattered snow forms a mountain, Sacred Peak Altahe, and Glacis dwells there for years as the city's guardian. The blizzards that she creates protected the city from outsides, and all of the townspeople revered her.

Ten years ago, however, the Dark Hunter led a band of men to hunt Glacis. The guardian manages to kill all besides the Dark Hunter and Heig, but not before they break her egg out of spite. Desolate on account of her loss, Glacis becomes bitter and causes an endless blizzard to sweep down the mountainside, perpetually chilling the city of Stormhail.

During Ochette's story, Heig returns up the mountainside to bury his lost comrades and claim his revenge. Glacis wounds him, only to be confronted by Ochette, who attempts to calm her. She attacks the young huntress in an effort to drive her away, but Ochette prevails and captures her, assuring her that she still has something worth protecting - the island of Toto'haha. Glacis willingly accompanies Ochette to prevent the Night of the Scarlet Moon.

In Ochette's final chapter, Glacis fights along Tera to defend Toto'haha, creating an ice bridge as a shortcut across the Stormy Cape.

Battle[]

Glacis uses primarily Type Ice ice based attacks. She can freeze travelers, preventing them from performing any actions for several turns.

At ##% of her maximum health, she will summon 2 Blue Elementals to her aid.The Blue Elementals will guard all of Glacis's weaknesses until they are both defeated.

At ##% of its maximum health, Glacis will use Frigid Earth, a permanent field aura that saps the party's SP each turn.

The battle ends once Glacis is captured by Ochette and all remaining Blue Elementals are defeated.

Etymology[]

"Glacis" is derived from the Latin word "glaciēs," meaning "ice." In French, "glacis" means "slippery surface," and is derived from the Old French "glaicer" (meaning "to glide" or "to freeze"). In English, "glacis" refers to a defensive structure used to strengthen a medieval fortification. The former meanings emphasize Glacis's association with ice, while the latter speaks to her strong desire to protect and her fortified position upon Sacred Peak Altahe.

Trivia[]

  • After Glacis has used Frigid Earth, summoning Tera will immediately negate Frigid Earth.
  • Although Glacis is only referred to as "it" in the game's dialogue, her voice and her egg(s) indicate that she is female.
  • Glacis bears a resemblance to the legendary Pokémon Articuno.
  • The game's dialogue only refers to a single egg of Glacis's, but the sprites reveal that she has three eggs, all cracked.
  • The Apothecary skill Rehabilitate does not cure the Frozen status.
  • When Glacis is ready to be captured, Ochette can act even if she is Frozen.
