Giff is a character in Octopath Traveler II. He is the boss of Partitio's Chapter 1 story. He and his lackeys work for Roque as his enforcers.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Giff is a portly man with upswept blond hair. He wears a black jacket with a red scarf, although once demoted to a regular worker, he changes into a white shirt and overalls.
Personality[]
A bully by nature, Giff cares nothing for the residents of Oresrush even though he is well aware of his contributions to the town's suffering. He engages in schemes that only profit himself, such as attempting to raid the Oresrush silver mine during its glory days. Giff is also a coward in that he enjoys oppressing the helpless, but begged for his life to be spared as soon as he was defeated by Partitio's workforce.
Giff seems to have changed for the better ever since he began to work off his debts in Oresrush. Although he is understandably generally disliked, his reputation is gradually becoming more positive, no matter how slight.
Story[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Not much is known of Giff's early life, though at some point during Oresrush's founding and prosperity, he became the head of a group of ruffians who were known to cause trouble in town as well as attempt to rob them of money, but were usually foiled. One night, he appeared with members of his gang at the mines to rob them, but was stopped by Partitio and his fellow miners. Before they retreated from the area, Giff angrily told Partitio that it wasn't over.
When the former land owner took back the land from Papp, Giff and his men were made the new enforcers and collectors for the town's taxes. One day, he confronted Partitio and the now-jobless miners, demanding payment for taxes. When one of them attempted to stand up to him, he knocked him down and stomped on him, but decided to retreat from the area, promising to collect a bigger cut next time.
Later that night, as he and his men shared a laugh in his manse, Giff was confronted by Partitio and some of the former miners where he, after revealing the truth about the contract Papp signed, engaged them in a battle, but ended up being defeated by Partitio. Begging for mercy, he opened up his safe and gave them all the money inside, which was enough to help rebuild the town. After Partitio questioned him about the land owner's identity, Giff reluctantly revealed that it was none other than Roque Brillante himself, to Partitio's shock.
Some time later, Giff was forced by Papp to work his debt off by helping out in the general store.Giff will begin battle with a Giff's Lackey I and Giff's Lackey II at his side.

Etymology[]
"Giff" may be a shortened form of the names "Gifford" or "Geoffrey" (which mean "God's peace" and "peace" respectively). Ironically, he brings unrest rather than peace to Oresrush.
Trivia[]
- Giff has the lowest HP of all Chapter 1 bosses in Octopath Traveler II, unless one doesn't add the total HP of Veron and Doron.
- During the Epilogue, Giff can be found lying drunk in Gil's tavern, bemoaning his conviction that Partitio is disappointed in him.
