Floyd is a character in Octopath Traveler II. The perfecter of the Neo Steam Engine, he appears during Partitio's Chapter 2.

Personality[]
Floyd is an earnest and eager young man, deeply absorbed in his work. He is prone to becoming so lost in his thoughts that he doesn't watch where he's going, and he tends to work so hard that he forgets to sleep.
Story[]
As an engineer-inventor and employee of the Roque Company, Floyd quite literally runs into Partitio in Clockbank when he is too embroiled in his calculations to pay attention to his heading. Upon inquiring of Floyd's absentminded behavior, Partitio learns that Floyd is researching and developing a way to simplify steam engines for mass production. Floyd currently works for the Roque Company, as his master's inventions were funded by Roque 8 years ago. When Partitio solves the problem of cheap durability by procuring a metal known as clockite, Floyd succeeds in producing the Neo Steam Engine.
Later, Floyd enthusiastically continues his work as an inventor-engineer at Roque Island. He works almost too enthusiastically, leading to Thurston requiring help in order to see to his eager co-workers' wellbeing.

Etymology[]
"Floyd" is a name of Welsh origin, derived from "Lloyd" (an anglicized spelling of "Llwyd," which means “gray" or "gray-haired"). As gray hair often symbolizes age, as well as wisdom, Floyd's name may reflect the toll that his hard work has taken on him along with his desire for prosperity.
