The Flatlands are a grassy meadow region on the northeastern side of Orsterra. The region includes the town of Atlasdam, which is home to the scholar Cyrus; Noblecourt, which is home to the dancer and former noblewoman Primrose; and Wispermill, a tiny rural hamlet. The Kingdom of Wold, one of the oldest and still standing kingdoms of Orsterra, lies in western Orsterra.
Despite its name, the Flatlands includes both sweeping grasslands and rolling green hills. The center of the Flatlands is a lush, treeless expanse inhabited by darting dragonflies, while windmills and grazing sheep dot the land further north. As the home of both academia and agriculture, the Flatlands serves as the indispensable heart of Orsterra.
The Flatlands are bordered by the Frostlands to the west and the Coastlands to the south. In the heart of the Flatlands rest the Shrine of the Sage and the secret Shrine of the Starseer.
History[]
Before the Grandport invasion of 1401, the Flatlands was composed of eight different clans, which banded together in face of the Grandportian attack. The clans had fought a long and bitter war amongst themselves before the army from Grandport arrived. United against the threat of a common enemy, Atlasdam and the Kingdom of Wold was created in the union of the eight tribes.[1]

Trivia[]
- Octopath Traveler's concept artists wanted to design the Flatlands with an air of luxury, so when creating Atlasdam they imagined a city rich in lifestyle and history, with a steady traffic of goods and people. At the same time, they included sections of stonework with vegetation growing from the crevices to ensure that the Flatlands cities feel like enduring townships with long histories.[2]
- The windmills scattered throughout the Flatlands are modeled off those in Kinderdijk in the Netherlands.[3]
