"So this is the great cathedral window! It's even more gorgeous than the stories say..." —Pilgrim

Flamechurch: Cathedral, also known as Aelfric Cathedral, is a town sub-area of the town of Flamechurch in Octopath Traveler II. It serves as the heart of the Order of the Sacred Flame, visited by many pilgrims.

Two years ago, the cathedral underwent extensive remodeling under the oversight of Vados the Architect.

The following section contains potential story spoilers!

During Temenos's Chapter 1, Pontiff Jörg summons Temenos to the cathedral to discuss rising heresies. However, Temenos and Crick arrive to find the pontiff slaughtered by Felvarg, who was lured to the scene with the smell of incense and entered through a broken window.

In their first Crossed Path episode, Temenos and Throné search the cathedral for a rumored treasure known as "Alpates," which was said to have been left behind by the gods. Instead, they discover that the pontiff's room hides a secret passage leading to hidden chambers in the upper cathedral. Within the upper room they meet a woman named Alpates, who gives them a fragment of a clouded mirror, then departs to complete her mysterious "mission" by rejoining her clan.

Trivia[]

  • The cathedral's center window is made from large soulstones of the fire, ice, thunder, and wind elements. As revealed by a cleric in the Cathedral Window Repair quest, their magic provides a ward against evil.
  • The clerics in the cathedral regularly listen to visitors' confessions, typically reserving them for the day but listening to urgent confessions at night as well.
  • According to the biography of a Historian in Flamechurch: Cathedral Entrance, the cathedral is said to contain extremely valuable books, including the journals of past pontiffs. Not even the library of Montwise contains such intimate insight.
  • The pontiff's room is located on the far right side of the cathedral; coincidentally or not, the pontiff's room in Flamesgrace Cathedral is located in the same position.
  • When Provoked, the clerics at the front of the cathedral will cry, "Another monster?!", referencing Felvarg's attack.
