"Greetings, and welcome to Flamechurch. You've come a long way!" —Elderly Man

Flamechurch is a town in Octopath Traveler II. Located south of the Flamechurch Cathedral, this town provides the starting point for Temenos's story and serves as a waystation for pilgrims of the Order of the Sacred Flame.

According to the Mercantile Manuscript, though Flamechurch's population is small, its townsfolk make a good living providing for the crowds of pilgrims who travel here to visit the cathedral.

Trivia[]

  • Flamechurch is one of six towns in Octopath Traveler II that has a unique theme not repeated in other towns, the others being Oresrush, Roque Island, Tropu'hopu, Cropdale, and Ku: Castle Town.
  • Flamechurch is a spiritual successor to Flamesgrace from the original Octopath Traveler.
    • Both cities include "flame" in their names.
    • Both cities stand near prominent cathedrals.
    • Both serve as the starting locations of their games' cleric protagonists.
    • Flamechurch's music reprises the climax of Flamesgrace's theme.
  • Flamechurch and Flamechurch: Cathedral Entrance are the only areas whose townspeople react to the darkness during the Journey for the Dawn. During the long night, Flamechurch's townspeople barricade themselves indoors, and their dialogue temporarily changes after Arcanette's defeat.
  • When composing "Flamechurch, Sacred Light," Yasunori Nishiki reused phrases from “Flamesgrace, Guiding Light," imagining that these songs have been handed down within the Order of the Sacred Flame. Although Octopath Traveler II is set on a different continent and in a different era from the original Octopath Traveler, he decided that the Order would surely still sing the same songs (though this is just the composer’s fantasy, not official lore). For the night version of the piece, the Order's phrases are arranged for chorus, set as a hymn the way the Order might sing it.[1]
