- "I ask you this, Chosen One... What do you seek at journey's end?" —The mysterious old man before starting one of the Master of... paths.
Finis is a character in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. He is the consort of Orsa and father of the Gods of Orsterra, and the one who created the portal between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead.
Story[]
Created in answer to the goddess' loneliness, he became her consort and together they had 13 children, but his spouse would die giving birth to the thirteenth, an event that would leave him distraught for a long time.
At some point he went to the realm of the dead, only to find Orsa in a deep sleep, unable to wake up. He discovered that in order to resurrect her, he needed the power of eight of his children, transform them into rings and offer them to the goddess. But those gods were the ones protecting the continent, so the action would condemn Orsterra to darkness. Feeling conflicted about the revelation, he spent some time observing humans and how they succumbed to their greed, so he let humanity choose for him. He turned the gods into rings and gave them to the people to see how they would use their power. After seeing them falling for their wishes for Wealth, Power and Fame, he began to look after a Champion to give them the task of retrieving the seven rings. He is the one who bestows the Cleric's Ring on the Chosen One.

Once the Chosen One manages to recover the remaining rings, Finis send them a letter to they and their allies requesting a meeting in the Altar of the Isle of Orsa, where he would explain the whole story. He congratulates the Chosen One for being different and not succumbing to the greed unlike the other ring bearers, for which Finis was convinced of the potential of people and choosed to favor the future of humanity over Orsa. He asks the Chosen One to hand over the rings so the Maidens of the Rings can perform the ritual to destroy them. Finis clarifies the rings will return to their original forms and they'll resume their task of protecting the continent, but before the ritual can be completed, one of the maidens finishes the others off and incinerates them with black flames while claiming that she is just following her lord's orders. In the confusion, Finis is wounded by Sazantos. Seeing them summoning black flames, Finis is terrified, doubting if he made a mistake in his judgement concerning the mankind before being incinerated by the former Knight Ardante's black flames. His ashes were used to turn the Flameguard's holy sword Fisteralda into a demonic sword.
