"There's a foul grave robber in these parts causing no end of trouble. If only someone would put him in his place..." —Old Gravekeeper

The Gravekeeper's Grief is a side story in Octopath Traveler. The tale begins by speaking to the Old Gravekeeper in the graveyard in East Noblecourt.

Old Gravekeeper East Noblecourt Location

Old Gravekeeper, East Noblecourt

Resolution[]

The side story may be resolved using one of two methods:

Path Action Purchase Purchase / Path Action Steal Steal[]

Travel to Noblecourt. Successfully use the Purchase or Steal path action to obtain the Codger-friendly Bow from the Accomplished Graybeard ( Path Action Purchase LeafLeaf 9,310 / Path Action Steal Lvl 42 ) at the base of the steps to the southeast.
The tale ends once the Codger-friendly Bow is given to the Old Gravekeeper.
"Bow in hand, the gravekeeper was able to chase away the ruffian who had been disturbing the cemetery."

Path Action Challenge Challenge / Path Action Provoke Provoke[]

Travel to Western Noblecourt Flats. Use the Challenge or Provoke path action to duel Awkward Boy ( Path Action Challenge Min Lvl: 5 / Path Action Provoke [Strength:3, HP:983, Weak:Type PolearmsType DaggersType Fire] ), located southwest of the entrance to Noblecourt.
The tale ends once the Awkward Boy is defeated.
"The supposed grave robber only had the purest of intentions. Motives clear, the boy began his rigorous training as the gravekeeper's apprentice."

Epilogue[]

Upon completion of the side story, the following occurs:

  • If the Purchase/Steal path was chosen, the Awkward Boy permanently disappears from the game.
  • If the Challenge/Provoke path was chosen, the Awkward Boy relocates to East Noblecourt near the Old Gravekeeper.
