- "Throné... You should have been my daughter! I raised you as if you were truly my own, more precious than anything... But enough talk. Everything I've done... has been for this, and this alone." —Before battle
Sebastian, also known as Father, is a character in Octopath Traveler II. Alongside Mother, he is the secondary antagonist of Throné's story and her Chapter 3 boss.
One of the leaders of the Blacksnakes, and a first-rate assassin who oversees the guild's jobs, he taught Throné the art of assassination when she was young.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Father has long white hair and a goatee, and wears a black trench coat with dark clothing and an eyepatch over his right eye. His battle sprite reveals that he has multiple blades hidden within his coat.
Personality[]
As befits an assassin, Father is mysterious and unpredictable. With a calm voice and demeanor that naturally suggests that he's always hiding something, he is able to both trick others into doing his bidding as well as deduce what others are thinking as well. He is incredibly intelligent and clever, able to figure out Throné's reasons for tracking him down well before she ever revealed her desire to kill him.
His relationship and true feelings regarding Throné are quite difficult to pin down. Unlike Mother, who exclusively viewed both her and Marietta as nuisances, Father does seem to care about them in his own twisted manner. He truly loved Marietta for a time, and was willing to leave his life as a killer behind so he could live peacefully with her. As for Throné, while he was aware she wasn't his blood daughter, he considered her one, and was willing to raise her as his own knowing that a day would likely come where she would seek revenge on him, as he felt that dying by her hand would give her closure regarding Marietta's fate. Ultimately, his relationship with Throné is that of a man with a horrible past trying to raise a girl the only way he knows: had he been given a chance to live a normal life free of bloodshed and betrayal, he likely would've been happily remembered by Throné.
Despite his violent profession, Father appears to believe in a higher purpose, as he tells Throné that everyone is born with a gift. He claims that the gods bestow each person with a job that only they can do, and assures Throné that her destiny (like his own) is to wield a dagger.
Like Throné, Father does not appear to care greatly about the Blacksnakes, as he treats them as a mere nest to sate his lust for blood. Although his demeanor is normally calm and collected, during battle he becomes unstable and brutal, reveling in bloodshed and taking pleasure in both the pain he inflicts and receives.

(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
Originally a low-ranked member of the Blacksnakes, Sebastian was born in a small town and learned to murder at a young age before coming to New Delsta when he was seventeen. While sent to assassinate a local lord, Sebastian would meet a fellow member named Marietta and he fell in love with her. He brought her to a church on the outskirts of Montwise where he declared his love and learned she bears his child, intending to leave the Blacksnakes and live an honest life with her. But the woman later called "Mother" informed Sebastian that Marietta aborted the child and left him for the Blacksnakes' true leader: his biological father Claude. Sebastian slits Marietta's throat as a result, raising her newborn daughter Throné as a killer in hopes that she would end his life. Consumed by his bloodlust while forcing Mother to never attempt to kill Throné or reveal the truth of her birth mother, Sebastian remained with the Blacksnakes and became its co-leader under the alias "Father".
Acquiring "the Mark" from Throné for a client, Father informs her that there is a possible traitor within the group who informed Lord Diamante of their heist along with revealing that he nominated Throné as his successor. The next day, as part of his scheme with Mother to select a worthy heir to their organization, he tricks Throné, Scaracci, and Pirro into killing each other while instructions for the survivor to meet him at Winterbloom where he is executing the leader of the Snowhares for intruding on Blacksnake territory.
If Throné goes after Father first, he is aware of her intentions and sends her to weaken the Snowhares' leader Bergomi before finishing the job after literally stabbing Throné in the back. Throné voices her intention to leave the Blacksnakes with Father noting the irony while telling her to meet him at Montwise, telling the girl his life's story while having her follow him to the abandoned church where he reveals her birth mother's identity and how he killed her. Father then attacks Throné, lamenting that she should have been his true daughter while revealing that he wanted her to kill him, as a horrified Throné is forced into landing the deathblow. Finding peace in his final moments as Throné gives him closure, Father hands her his key while revealing that the other is with her biological father before passing away.
