To protect Edoras, I must fight Edoras... How ironic. — Elrica, before confronting Gonzalez

Elrica Edoras is a character in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. She was one of the main protagonists of the Master of All path and a princess from Edoras Kingdom. She was married to the Lion General, Mahrez, and dearly loved her sister Alaune. She also served as the next-in-line heir to King Pardis III.

Profile[]

Appearence[]

Elrica has long blonde hair that reaches her shoulders and her hair is tied in a bun. She usually wears a white-blue formal dress.

Personality[]

Elrica is a tough girl with a kind heart. She was raised and trained by the left hand of the Edoras King, Lebrandt. As she headed west of Edoras, she saw how sad her father's subjects were. They told how cruel Pardis III was and she instantly sought out to change her father's rule for the better. Since then, Elrica has always thought of her people and helped them secretly.

(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...)
The following section contains potential story spoilers!

Elrica is first seen by the Chosen One on the day of her wedding. She gets married to Mahrez and then confronts her father about his ambitions. Her father decides to execute her right there in front of him until he is stopped by an attendant. Upon the death of Mahrez in the battlefield and then learning the truth of his death, she tells Alaune of her plans and sets off on an adventure. Under the guise of the swordsman "El" hailing from Edoras, she finds the Chosen One who decides to accompany her. They later encounter another traveler named "Charles" who travels with them to Sunshade where they try to foil the assassination plot of King Solon. They find King Solon and eliminate the assassin coming for him. The trio swear their fealty to the king as they hear from a messenger about Riven's fall. "Charles" leaves the group, leaving El and the Chosen One to serve King Solon.

When Altinia is attacked by the Edoras forces, El and the Chosen One decide to ambush King Pardis with a sneak attack, having encountered General Krauser and his lackeys and disposing of them. Revealing her true identity to Krauser as Elrica, she attacks her father on the behalf of her kingdom. Unfortunately, she loses the battle and is imprisoned. King Solon, the Chosen One and her sister Alaune attempt to save Elrica but to no avail. A meeting was held to hold King Pardis accountable for his crime of breaking the peace treaty. However, he is assisted by the King of Riven who was reported to have been killed in combat. Following their failure, Elrica is ultimately executed by her father at the same place she had just been married.

In a moment of despair, Elrica's spirit encourages Alaune, which allows her to find the courage to perservere in defeating their father.

Relationships[]

Alaune[]

Alaune is Elrica's younger sister. Elrica always cared for Alaune when she was in trouble. On the other hand, Alaune will do anything to help Elrica as well. Both of them really care about each other, and even when Elrica is in big trouble, Alaune is willing to travel far to help Elrica like she does in Chapter 6 of the Master of All storyline.

Mahrez[]

Mahrez is a general of the kingdom of Edoras and also Elrica's husband. He married Erika because of his continual victories against the Western Tribe and the respect of the people resting on him. Mahrez and Elrica love each other deeply and the people of Edoras openly voice their support for their union. Because her father ordered him to attack the Western Tribe shortly after the wedding ceremony, their moment of togetherness was delayed. Upon hearing the news of Mahrez's murder, she immediately sought after the Chosen One and blamed them of her beloved's death until Lebrandt told her they were framed by her father. Afterwards, Elrica departed from the castle and vowed that she would avenge Mahrez's death by bringing about change to Edoras.

Lebrandt[]

Lebrandt is the left hand of the princess of the kingdom of Edoras. He taught Elrica skills such as swordsmanship, cultural learning, education, and more to fulfill her royal duties. Initially, Lebrandt was going to be executed until he was saved by Elrica's insistence. Subsequently, Lebrandt took up occupation as Elrica's valet and au-pair and became one of her most trusted advisors in thanks to her saving his life.

Etymology[]

The name Elrica is of Scandinavian origin. The meaning of Elrica is 'eternal ruler' or 'ever-powerful'. Elrica is the feminine form of the name Elric, which comes from the Old English name Æðelric meaning 'wise noble or ruler'. There are many other variants to this name such as Erika, Erica, Ericka or Ereka.

Trivia[]

  • At end of chapter, Elrica is shown as a soul as a response to Alaune's prayer for helping the Travelers.
  • In a flashback of Alaune during Part 3, when a younger Elrica was practicing sword skills with Lebrandt, Pardis asks Elrica to defeat him in single combat. While she's able to put up more of a fight in the future, she's defeated in single strike counter by Pardis. Afterwards, the latter got disappointed and punched the young princess several times until her mother came to protect her.
  • Elrica is one of two characters in the series to canonically fight an opponent in single combat without any help from other Travelers. The other character is Olberic with his fight against Erhardt in the first game.

In Bestower of All, Chapter II, Elrica is fought as Fallen Elrica.
