- "I hope the children can come to see me as family." —On the Road to Mother's Garden, quest complete
Elderly Guard is a minor character in Octopath Traveler II. He appears briefly during Throné's Chapter 3: Mother's Route, watching over Mother's Garden: Orphanage.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
The Elderly Guard is an old man with long gray hair and a beard. He wears a green tunic and pants, with a pouch hanging from his belt.
Personality[]
As a watchman for Mother's orphanage, the Elderly Guard believes in his duty to keep the children safe from outside threats, though he seems regretful at his inability to protect them from the threats that come from within the orphanage itself. Once the orphanage is freed from Mother's tyranny, he goes out of his way to seek out Mira when she goes missing, traveling across Solistia in order to find her and dissuade her from revenge. As a guardian over the children, the Elderly Guard has a protective streak despite his prevailing equanimity, which eventually inspires him to act as their surrogate father.
Story[]
When Throné first reaches Mother's orphanage, the Elderly Guard greets her from his position at the gate. As the tolling of a distant bell rings over the orphanage, the Elderly Guard remarks that the bell is ringing again, causing Throné to remark on its beautiful sound. The Guard admits her into the orphanage, but he neglects to tell her that the bell's ringing signifies punishment for the children inside.
After Throné kills Mother and departs the orphanage, the Elderly Guard steps in to take care of the children, gradually reforming the orphanage from a training den for thieves to a compassionate sanctuary run by nuns.
Once Throné's story is complete, Mira disappears from the orphanage in a quest to take revenge. The Elderly Guard follows her trail to Wellgrove, soliciting help from the travelers to track her down. Eventually, he finds Mira in Lostseed, who since discovered her true parentage. Along the way, the Elderly Guard meets his twin brother, who serves as the Guide running the gondola of the Deserted Highroad. After talking with Mira, the Elderly Guard convinces her to return to the orphanage, where they dedicate themselves together to the children's betterment.
