Profile[]
Appearance[]
Dominic has gray hair and wears a green tunic over a white shirt.
Personality[]
Since the death of his daughter, Dominic has grown deeply melancholic over translating the horrific passages of From the Far Reaches of Hell. He views his daughter's death as divine punishment for his actions, and continues to live in deep regret over translating the tome. H'aanit notes during travel banter that the suffering in Dominic's voice is that of a man who has been made to forsake everything.
Story[]
15 years prior to the events of Octopath Traveler, Dominic was commissioned by Yvon to translate the tome From the Far Reaches of Hell. As his daughter was sick and he could not afford medicine, he accepted the job, but shortly regretted it. The translated tome unleashed infernal secrets about life and death, and his daughter later passed away.
Viewing this outcome as his divine punishment, Dominic grew depressed and refused to let anyone into his home. When approached by Cyrus Albright, who learns of his plight from the townspeople, he agreed to speak with the scholar about the translation of the tome, revealing that he deliberately omitted the tome's most horrific passages.
Eventually, Dominic met Russell in a tavern, sodden with drink and guilt. In Russel, Dominic recognized a kindred soul, and he invited the repentant scholar to work with him in search of redemption. Together, the two continue to make atonement for their crimes against academia.

Etymology[]
"Dominic" is a name of Latin origin meaning "lordly" or "sovereign." Given its popular usage among Roman Catholics, the name also came to mean "belonging to God," ironically contrasting Dominic's belief that his actions have incurred divine punishment.
